At Northwestern Mutual electronic document management is an essential capability for the organization and our digital platform strategy. Our team is integral to the customer, advisor and home office user experiences by primarily focusing on delivering on highly available, sophisticated digital document management platform allowing both internal and external users to search, view, download, and upload documents at any time of day; and will be overseeing the growth of team responsibility adopting further core-platform functionality of the enterprise digital platform portfolio.  

Responsibilities: As a senior full stack engineer, you will play a key role in developing and maintaining our critical systems. Your responsibilities will include: 

  • Designing and implementing robust, scalable, and high-performance software solutions that meet business requirements and align with best practices and industry standards. We operate what we build; as such, we have an on-call rotation for the team. 

  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, define technical specifications, provide solutions to system-wide architectural problems while ensuring successful delivery through continuous improvement. 

  • Writing clean, efficient, and maintainable code, while adhering to coding standards and guidelines, ensuring consistency and efficiency in software development processes. 

  • Debugging and troubleshooting complex issues, ensuring the stability and reliability of our applications. 

  • Taking ownership of backlog items and actively contributing to the git repositories, driving the progress of projects and delivering high-quality code. 

  • Demonstrating technical leadership to the team and multiplying their talent through positive mentorship, sharing knowledge and best practices to foster their professional growth. 

Ideal candidate, would have following skills:  

  • 4+ years professional experience required. 

  • 3-5+ years of experience working with modern engineering tools, languages and practices. 

  • Expertise in Spring Framework, Junit. 

  • Working knowledge of front-end components and frameworks like React, NodeJS, Typescript, Next.js, and Jest. 

  • Terraform and AWS services such as Aurora, S3, SQS, MSK, Kinesis, and DynamoDB. 

  • Proficiency in developing cloud-based, dockerized applications and microservices. 

  • Experience in writing and debugging multithreaded Java applications. 

  • Capable of communicating between product, engineering, and the business. 

  • Manages own time to meet objectives. 

  • Ability to perform peer reviews on code and design. 

  • Solid understanding of design patterns and architecture.

Pay Range - Start:

$100,030.00

Pay Range - End:

$185,770.00

Northwestern Mutual pays on a geographic-specific salary structure and placement in the salary range for this position will be determined by a number of factors including the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; the scope, complexity as well as the cost of labor in the market; and other conditions of employment. At Northwestern Mutual, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
