POSITION PURPOSE: Directs the activities and functions of Clinic Operations: Main Clinic and some satellite clinics where primary care services are provided. Additional responsibilities include oversight of the nurse educator. Collaborates with Physicians and members of the care team for the implementation of policies, procedures, standards, and regulations for the departments to facilitate optimal patient care. Assumes 24-hour responsibility, authority, and accountability for patient care activities and service operation. Position reports to the VP Patient Care Services/Chief Nursing Officer and VP of Physician Services & Clinic Operations through a dyad model.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Systematically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice and daily operations in assigned clinics, analyzing appropriate internal and external data and information to identify opportunities in collaboration with stakeholders for improving services and patient outcomes.
- Promotes integrating evidence-based knowledge into the identification of best practice in the delivery of care to the appropriate population.
- Promotes, monitors and responds effectively to customer service expectations, both internal and external, for the clinic practice.
- Ensures availability and operation of necessary equipment and supplies for patient care.
- Plan, organize, coordinate, and direct department functions and activities to ensure services are provided in accordance with the established standards, regulatory and legal requirements. Ensures the continuity of care is maintained.
- Ensures necessary staffing is provided efficient daily operations of the clinic by monitoring, evaluating, and modifying staffing patterns to align with scheduling practices. Collaborates with the Staffing Coordinator, and /or the Assistant Managers to evaluate work schedules to ensure adequate coverage across assigned clinic practices.
- Prepares, monitors, and adjusts annual departmental operating and capital budget in conjunction with Senior Leadership to assure cost effective utilization of personnel, equipment, and supplies while maintaining quality patient care. Monitors approved budgets monthly, explaining variances.
- Demonstrate ability to work closely with multi-disciplinary team(s) to facilitate the improvement of patient care on a continuum.
- Interviews and hires applicants. Cultivates an atmosphere that promotes recruitment, retention, and employee appreciation. Promotes good employee relations. Establishes and maintains a climate in which personnel can attain their maximum potential in performance.
- Collaborates with the Director of Professional Development, communicates new/revised protocols in the implementation of orientation and ongoing education of staff. Creates an environment of professional growth and development.
- Effectively intercede with family and patients and resolve concerns related to the delivery of health care services. Investigates, resolves, and documents the resolution of complaints or incidents concerning patients, visitors, nursing staff, or other customers.
- Counsels employees when appropriate and collaborates with Human Resources when needed.
- Serve on various CGH committees, attends department manager’s meetings as scheduled.
- Monitors, implements, and participates in continuous quality improvement processes regarding topics pertinent to the department. Communicates with various departments, Department directors, to resolve operational problems and improve quality of services.
SPECIALIZED KNOW-HOW & REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing, business or healthcare management required; Master’s degree in Nursing, Business, or required within three years of hire.
- Three years progressive supervisory experience in a health care setting applicable to area(s) of responsibility, includes one to two years of direct supervisory experience.
- Demonstrated computer skills including Windows based word processing and e-mail.
- Excellent organizational, management, oral and written communication skills.
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. Current active Illinois RN license or valid work permit.
- Excellent interpersonal skills required. Ability to interact on varying levels with public, physicians, and other Medical Center personnel. Ability/willingness to speak publicly.
- Demonstrates the knowledge necessary to provide care appropriate to any age-related needs of the patients served on assigned unit. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development appropriate to the patient population served. Able to assess and interpret data about the patient’s status in order to identify each patient’s needs and provide the appropriate care, including age-related care, needed by the neonate, pediatric, adolescent and/or geriatric patient group.
Compensation Range
$87,360.00 - $131,040.00
