The ALM Analyst is primarily tasked to support the ALM Manager in the completion of various ALM activities. These include, but are not limited to, mostly longer term projects that cover the following: 1) Crafting, refining, and reviewing the Investment Strategies used to run the General Account Segment of both SLOCPI and SLGFI, 2) Reviewing Financial Assumptions and Management Actions applied in both asset and liability models utilized by Sun Life, 3) ALM Strategic Initiatives that are designed to benefit the overall business of Sun Life. The ALM Analyst is also expected to assist the ALM Manager in her role as primary support to the ALM Head in chairing both the Asset Liability Committee and the ALM Working Group.

He/she is expected to pick-up concepts covering both the asset side and liability side of the business.

  • Superior quantitative and analytical skills.

  • Has knowledge in Mathematics, mathematical models, and model design & analysis; Actuarial principles and analysis; Law and compliance principles; Insurance principles and terminology and Insurance and financial services.

  • Has knowledge in key Economic and Investment concepts that drive the financial markets and how it relates to business.

  • General awareness of key Actuarial concepts as they relate to business environment.

  • Is into developing competency in at least one (1) key area of responsibility.

  • Has the ability to apply competency in the use of information technology tools to design and implement programs for data modeling, scenario testing, and financial projections.

  • Education

    Candidate must possess at least a Bachelor's/College Degree in Mathematics or Statistics preferably with honors.

    Experience

    With or without work experience.

Responsibilities (heading) / Responsabilités (titre)

  • ALM Strategic Initiatives.   The ALM Analyst is expected to assist the ALM Manager in the delivery of medium to longer term projects in the fulfillment of initiatives set out by the ALM Team. This covers, but may not be limited to, projects such as the implementation of Stochastic Models and the application of new local Accounting Standards. This also includes the performance of other responsibilities and duties as may be assigned by the ALM Manager in order to meet other project requirements.

  • Investment Strategy Review. The ALM Analyst must be able to perform data gathering, coordination with other parties, and analysis in order to support the team’s objective of crafting, refining, and improving the Investment Strategy used in the management of Sun Life’s general accounts.

  • Assumption Changes and Management Action Studies.  The ALM Analyst must also be able to accomplish the necessary activities to assist the ALM Manager in the delivery of Assumption Changes and Management Action Studies performed by the ALM Team

  • ALM Risk Management  and Reporting.  This involves supporting the ALM Manager and ALM Head in the generation of periodic reports and the performance of regular tasks as may be required by the business unit such as Financial Reporting, ALCO, and ALM Working Groups.
