This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s multiple Blue Moon lander product lines. To further Blue Origin's mission of having millions of people living and working in space, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface. 

  

As part of a hardworking team of diverse engineers and specialists, you will report to the Mission-Crew Interfaces IPT Lead as an electromechanical engineer for the Lunar Crew Module.  You will be responsible for the definition, design, development, procurement, test, and delivery of crew displays hardware within the Displays & Controls subsystem. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and attention towards safe and reliable spaceflight. You will work directly with NASA and our National Team Partners as part of the Human Landing System (HLS) Sustaining Lunar Development (SLD) program. You will play a key role in developing the Lunar Transportation system that will return humans to the Moon and extend human presence permanently beyond the bounds of Earth.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Support Displays & Controls Responsible Engineer by providing component and subsystem trade studies, analyses, performance characterization and specification, device selection, and roadmap direction.
  • Support risk analyses, failure modes effects and criticality analyses (FMECA), design for test/manufacture/cost (DFx), and root-cause analysis of test discrepancies.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders including Flight Software, Systems, Harnessing, Command & Data Handling, Electrical Power, Communications, Piloting, Logistics, and Human Integration.
  • Effectively communicate development status, risks, and challenges to management.
  • Develop and document electronic and electrical system requirements
  • Design hardware, software and interface specifications
  • Contribute to testing and analysis to ensure system designs meet operational and functional requirements
  • Review supplier documentation to ensure thorough verification and validation
  • Develop design assurance and certification documentation
  • Travel expected as needed to support vendor meetings and technical interchanges

Minimum Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or related field
  • 5+ years of direct experience in electronics or electromechanical hardware development
  • Experience designing and developing electronic hardware that supports direct human interaction
  • Experience with LCD display characteristics and metrology.
  • Experience delivering safety critical displays from early design and development to production based on collaboration with vendors
  • Direct hands-on experience developing complex commercial or aerospace electronic assemblies (designing custom cards or integrating COTS hardware). Direct hands-on experience with analog, digital and mixed-signal circuit analysis, simulation, design, test, debug, signal integrity, power, grounding and general board layout principles.
  • Exposure to analog and digital filters, signal conditioning and signal processing using discrete components.
  • Familiarity with use of complex computational devices (combinational and sequential logic) to monitor sensors and control actuators; including design, development and verification.
  • Highly organized team player with excellent technical communication skills (written and verbal)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Exposure to designing safety or mission critical aerospace flight hardware compliant with DO-254.
  • Experience with software qualified to DO-178C or NPR 7150.2D
  • Exposure to development of high-reliability, radiation-tolerant, radiation-hardened flight hardware intended for prolonged exposure to extreme space environments.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and developing electromechanical hardware for flight control, piloting, aerospace audiovisual systems, and/or spaceflight payloads.
  • Demonstrated expertise designing high-reliability, safety-critical, Class 2/3 board assemblies; including familiarity with IPC J-STD-00x, IPC 6xx, and NASA-STD-8739.n (or similar) standards.
  • Proficiency using Altium/Cadence OrCAD / Allegro (or similar tools) to design complex aerospace boards; and experience working with external board manufacturing and assembly vendors.
  • Proficiency with scripting; programming and analysis/modeling tools: Python, Linux/Windows shell scripting; assembly language, C, C++; MATLAB / Simulink / SPICE (or similar).


 

Compensation Range for:

WA applicants is $128,430.00-$179,802.00
