Northrop Grumman Space Systems (NGSP) is looking for you to join our team on the Modeling and Simulation Software (MSS) Infrastructure Project team on the Specialized Warfighter and Development Contract (SWDC) program as an IT Storage/Virtualization Design Engineer 3 based out of Schriever SFB, CO. This is an on-site position with no remote option.

The IT Storage/Virtualization Design Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing storage infrastructure for critical IT systems. This role requires a deep understanding of storage technologies, architectures, and best practices, as well as a strong commitment to security and compliance in a non-cloud environment.

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop and implement storage architectures that meet the performance, capacity, and security requirements.
  • Forecast future storage needs and optimize storage utilization to ensure efficient resource allocation.
  • Monitor and optimize storage performance to ensure high availability and responsiveness.
  • Implement robust security measures and ensure compliance with DoD security regulations and standards.
  • Integrate storage systems with other IT components, such as servers, networks, and virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V).
  • Develop and implement disaster recovery and data protection strategies to safeguard against data loss or corruption.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement best practices to enhance storage efficiency and reliability.
  • Perform storage performance tuning and optimization to maximize system efficiency.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for storage systems, processes, and architectures.
  • Manage relationships with storage vendors and evaluate new storage solutions for potential implementation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional IT teams (networking, security, applications) to design holistic solutions.
  • Stay current with the latest storage technologies and industry trends, continuously updating skills and knowledge.
  • Other duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5 years of related experience, or 9 years of experience in lieu of a degree with 3-5 years of experience in IT storage design, implementation, and management
  • Must have CompTIA Security+ with Continuing Education (CE) or equivalent certification under DoD 8570.01-M
  • Strong understanding of storage technologies, architectures, and protocols (e.g., SAN, NAS, DAS, iSCSI, Fibre Channel).
  • Hands-on experience with major storage platforms (e.g., EMC, NetApp, IBM, HPE).
  • Proficiency in storage automation and scripting (e.g., PowerShell, Python).
  • Experience with VMware vSphere and related virtualization technologies
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Strong project management skills, particularly for storage migration or upgrade projects.
  • Relevant storage certifications (e.g., VCP-Storage, EMC Proven Professional)
  • Experience with other virtualization platforms (e.g., Hyper-V, KVM) in addition to VMware.
  • Familiarity with emerging storage technologies such as NVMe, software-defined storage, or hyper-converged infrastructure.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex storage issues and identify root causes.
  • Experience with data protection strategies and backup solutions.
  • Expertise in storage capacity planning and forecasting.
  • Experience working in a Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • In-depth knowledge of DoD-specific storage requirements and regulations.

Salary Range: $88,600.00 - $133,000.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
