The opportunity

Teachers’ Venture Growth (TVG) focuses on late-stage venture and growth equity investments in companies that use technology to disrupt incumbents and build new sectors. We seek to capitalize on significant global opportunities for investment in new businesses and sectors that are emerging because of unprecedented technological change.

Our global team invests in companies from around the world that have a proven business model and a known path to market!

You will have the opportunity to work closely with the investment team and be involved across all aspects of the transaction process. As an Investment Analyst, you will evaluate emerging themes, technologies and business sectors, conduct financial analysis, support commercial due diligence and help prepare investment memos.

Who you’ll work with

You will collaborate with a team of 20-25 investment professionals across Toronto, San Francisco, London, Mumbai, Singapore, and Hong Kong.

You will be exposed to other investment classes and functional groups within Ontario Teachers’. As part of the investment and due diligence process, you may also have exposure to industry experts, advisors and management teams of growing companies!

What you'll do

  • Play a critical role in the research, analysis and evaluation of a variety of direct investment opportunities
  • Develop financial models to analyze the investment opportunities
  • Present investment recommendations and memos to internal committees, as required
  • Support internal processes including critical aspects of the valuation process, ongoing monitoring and administration of investments
  • Contribute to other OTPP initiatives defined as critical by senior leaders within TVG including initiatives designed to share the insights of TVG with the broader Investment organization
  • Engage with key partners globally including like-minded investors, entrepreneurs, VC and growth equity-focused banks and other service providers
  • Represent Teachers’ Venture Growth at annual meetings and industry conferences
  • Partner and communicate with the global team across all offices ensuring appropriate parties are kept informed and engaged on transactions or initiatives
  • Develop a strong and intuitive grasp of the strategic objectives that TVG uses to anchor its investment decision-making
  • Work cross-functionally and collaboratively with other teams to ensure continued alignment with OTPP’s mission, vision and values. This includes supporting and sharing knowledge with other areas of Investments and responding to ad hoc requests from other departments

What you'll need

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field, graduate degree, MBA or other an asset
  • Up to 1 year of relevant experience (investment banking, management consulting, direct investing, or corporate development within an operating business)
  • Keen interest in disruptive / innovative technology trends. Experience investing in venture-backed companies an asset
  • Excellent analytical and quantitative skills and ability to perform in-depth analysis
  • Entrepreneurial, self-motivated, results and growth-oriented
  • Possess a global mindset-oriented approach to working on opportunities
  • An ability to balance priorities, work independently with minimal direction, lead projects and thrive in a high-performance team environment
  • Advanced skills in Excel and PowerPoint. Experience organizing and analyzing structured and unstructured data an asset.
  • Ability to travel as required
