Sustainability, External Affairs & Legal - Sustainability, Policy & Engagement develops and implements Telstra's sustainability strategy, and manages Telstra's public policy and engagement activities.
 

Role Purpose
We are looking for a Senior Privacy Compliance Specialist to join our team. This role requires a versatile Privacy professional with a passion for improving compliance and driving compliance outcomes and is central in reducing Telstra's privacy risk and improving our Global Privacy Framework. You will report to our Chief Privacy Officer and partner with multiple Privacy Managers across our global business. This role will support the Group Privacy team to oversee and monitor the global privacy compliance framework to effectively reduce our privacy risks globally.
 

Key Responsibilities

  • Overseeing the enterprise-wide privacy compliance program.
  • Providing subject matter advice to the Telstra Privacy community on privacy risks associated with complex projects and initiatives including Artificial Intelligence and emerging technology.
  • Overseeing the Compliance Management process with the Office of Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).
  • Managing the Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA) process.
  • Designing and Implementing international compliance programs (as required) (e.g. GDPR, CCPA, laws in the APAC region).
  • Reviewing and maintaining the Telstra Group suite of privacy statements and notices.
  • Preparing regular reporting to the Telstra Audit and Risk Committee and management forums on emerging privacy related risks and incidents.
  • Preparing regulatory submissions to influence changes to Privacy Legislation
  • Working with Functional Unit Teams to translate regulatory requirements from privacy reform and implement these across the enterprise.
  • Managing cross functional relationships with multiple stakeholders across Functions, Risk and Compliance and Legal.
  • Management and assessment of privacy breaches and incidents and associated notification and remediation.

About you

To be successful in the role, you'll have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Law, Commerce, Business, Information Systems or a related discipline, ideally holding or with an interest in pursuing professional and/or Post Graduate qualifications.
  • Minimum 5 years experience working in privacy or related roles.
  • In-depth understanding of the Australian Privacy Act
  • Experience / knowledge of GDPR and other global privacy regimes.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Demonstrated ability of solving complex problems.
  • Establishing and maintaining stakeholder relationships.
  • Demonstrated experience in compliance or risk management.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with ambiguity to tight timelines.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and translate legislation into simple processes and procedures.
  • As a bonus has recognised privacy certifications eg. CIPM.
