Job Responsibilities:

POSITION SUMMARY:

To provide students currently enrolled in a Weld Technician or Mechanical Engineering Program with an interest in automotive weld tech work experience assisting with their ongoing educational training and skill development. The student will perform a wide array of duties within the Quality Department.

This position has been posted to fill an existing vacancy. The role requires shift work, including weekend shifts. The anticipated duration of this temporary assignment is approximately five (5) months, with an expected end date of December 2026.


POSITION SALARY:
$21.60 - $25.25 CAD Hourly


WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

  • Enrolled in Welding Technologist/Technician Course OR Mechanical Engineering Program from a Community or recognized college.

YOUR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Some experience with manual Gas Metal Arc Welding an asset.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Perform all duties and promote themselves in a manner that reflects Formet Expectations and Formet’s Visions/Values through Magna’s Employee Charter.
  • Follow and abide by all government, Legal, Magna and Formet rules and regulations.
  • Participate as a Team Member with effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Support the Weld Engineering Coordinator’s on new and existing programs.
  • Conduct weld process audits for both GMAW and Spot Welding; including weld sequence verification and weld parameter verification, both GMAW and Spot Welding processes.
  • Update weld documentation as required.
  • Participate in weld process improvements.
  • Assist Weld Technicians with trouble shooting weld issues.
  • Support cycle time improvements.
  • Assist with implementing process changes.
  • Generating and upkeep of the Weld Set up Instructions, Weld Inspection Records and Weld Length records.
  • Conduct weld inspection and analyze weld data, generate reports.
  • Inspect weld process first-off.
  • Archiving of weld destruct components in computer Paxit system.
  • Measure weld data to ensure customer specifications are met.
  • Assist and participate in Proto Builds.
  • Support weld buyoff of prototype builds.
  • Take initiative to follow through on completion of tasks.
  • Provide support to all Departments for weld-related issues.
  • Perform other duties as designated.
