Job Description:

Walt Disney Animation Studios is seeking Layout Finaling Artists to join our studio in Burbank, CA!

A central component of Disney’s storytelling process is the work done in CG Layout. Layout transforms a film’s art, storyboards, and assets into the shots that audiences around the world will see on the big screen. CG Layout Artists stage and block the CG cameras and characters in virtual environments through a combination of skills both artistic and technical.

What You Will Do

Final Layout ensures the accuracy of shots and applies necessary fixes before they advance beyond Layout and Animation. Layout Finaling Artists communicate workflows, trends, issues, and solutions across departments as well as clarifying requests and providing context for shots. A Final Layout Artist is responsible for the integrity of their shot files and for fixing the file’s camera, sets and props (as needed), before publishing the file for consumption by downstream departments. Final Layout Artists also adjust the composition of environments for the purposes of appeal, continuity, and clarity to reinforce and further the film’s story and specific visual style. Our Final Layout Artists have the eye for detail that helps shape our stories from the inside out!

Required Qualifications & Skills

● Strong knowledge of the CG Layout process, particularly animating cameras for film-driven styles.

● Strong cinematic training and knowledge including framing, eyefix, and shot flow as well as a basic understanding of camera lenses, fstops, and shutter settings.

● Understanding of animation and animation pipeline including secondary element animation such as props, vehicles, or effects.

● Solid Maya skills and training (proprietary tools will be taught).

● Excellent written and verbal communication skills

● Basic understanding of modeling, texturing and lighting.

● Ability to track and stay on top of detailed information.

● Solid understanding of production priorities.

● Ability to problem solve and share solutions.

● Willingness to inclusively work with others and take direction from show Supervisors.

Preferred Qualifications

● Experience working with and editing text files is a plus.

● Adaptability to evolving tools and workflows.

● Ability to explore new approaches, suggest thoughtful solutions, and risk failure responsibly.

● Linux OS experience

Education

● Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and/or equivalent experience.

Application Requirements

To apply, please include:

● A reel of your recent and/or past CG Layout Finaling work that shows one or more shot sequences in continuity that demonstrate polished visual storytelling through staging, editing, and camera composition. This is crucial.

● A resume that details your work history.
