Job Description:

The Custodian Lead is responsible for coordinating the custodial staff and ensuring that the interior and exterior of Meow Wolf is maintained and cleaned. This is a maintenance position that requires leadership experience as the employee will serve as a liaison between the Custodial team and the Facilities Manager.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate activities by scheduling work assignments, setting priorities, and directing the work of other janitorial staff. 

  • Evaluate and verify employee performance through the review of completed work assignments and work techniques. 

  • Identify staff development and training needs and ensure that training is obtained. 

  • Maintain records, prepare reports, and compose correspondence relative to the work. 

  • Make rounds to check for crew coverage of designated work areas, assigning needed coverage, and giving special cleaning instructions and/or assignments. 

  • Determine materials, supplies, and equipment needs; ordering cleaning supplies and materials. 

  • Inspect equipment for cleanliness and repair and personally make minor repairs. 

  • Perform related work as assigned.

Required Qualifications: 

  • More than 2 years of experience managing a team of 5 or more staff. 

  • More than 2 years of experience training new staff members. 

  • More than 2 years of experience creating staff schedules. 

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in Custodial/ EVS/ Janitorial. 

  • Ability to clearly communicate information and expectations to staff. 

  • Ability to thoughtfully listen to the needs and concerns of staff. 

  • Ability to follow and enforce safety rules. 

  • Ability to be flexible and adapt in a fast-paced work environment. 

  • Professional demeanor in a public space. 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Ability to follow instructions and pay attention to detail. 

  • A positive attitude. 

  • A flexible schedule: ability to workdays and weekends. 

  • Experience with general Janitorial duties and cleaning equipment. 

  • Prior work experience in a physically demanding field: Environmental Services and Janitorial. 

  • Thorough knowledge of the common tools, equipment, and materials used in cleaning and maintenance activities. 

  • Thorough knowledge of methods used in the cleaning of buildings.

  • Experience and ability to operate general hand tools and cleaning equipment 

  • Ability to maintain cleaning equipment and machinery. 

  • Thorough knowledge of occupational hazards and safety rules and regulations. 

  • Considerable knowledge of employee policies and procedures.

Work Environment:

This job operates in an office environment as well as a museum/ art exhibit. This role routinely uses cleaning equipment such as mops, vacuums, and other cleaning tools. 

Physical Demands:

Employees may be required to lift up to 60lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

The employee will comply with company and OSHA standard workplace safety protocols. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. 
 

Work Schedule: 

This is a full-time position. Schedules are based on business needs. This position requires a flexible schedule to accommodate the times the exhibit is closed to the public. Occasional evening, overnight, weekends, and holidays will be expected as job duties demand.

Supervisory duties as assigned.
