Primary Function

The Flight Follower (Flight Operations Specialist) is accountable to the Director of Maintenance. The Flight Follower is responsible for scheduling aircraft missions and assisting flight crews before and after flights.

Essential Duties

  • Schedules travel on government aircraft or other lift alternatives, such as charter.
  • Coordinates aircraft missions with the requesting organization and inputs the mission into Flight Operations System (FOS) software.
  • Coordinates flight requirements between operations and maintenance.
  • Provides mission information to flight crews.
  • Submits Prior Permission Requests (PPRs) at specified military bases.
  • Maintains and updates aircraft and crew schedules to ensure compliance with organization and regulatory requirements.
  • Obtains international permits and visas and coordinates with aircraft service handlers for international flights, if applicable.
  • Maintains inventories of charts and related flight crew materials such as orders and flight and operations publications.
  • Maintains spare electronic flight bags (EFBs) with the required information provided by the Information Technology and Operational Security Manager.
  • Coordinates aircraft handling and fueling with fixed-base operations (FBOs) and military bases if requested by the PIC.
  • Interfaces with flight crews, management, maintenance staff, and passengers to ensure mission success.

Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills specifically using Microsoft Office Suite.  Ability to learn additional computer skills or software programs. Working knowledge of advanced software applications is preferred.
  • Ability to examine all NOTAMS and assure pilots of navaid statuses.
  • Ability to brief pilots on all weather, NOTAMS, and navaid outages. Coordinate additions to and deletions from the passenger lists prior to aircraft movement and coordinate changes of aircraft movement.
  • Ability to update the PIC of significant changes to weather, flight plan, or itinerary changes.
  • Ability to dispatch and monitor aircraft in accordance with applicable FARs and company manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Interpersonal skills are necessary to work effectively and cooperatively with all levels of management and staff. Will also routinely interact with other crew members.
  • Must possess effective oral and technical written communication skills to clearly communicate information to others.
  • Ability to use general office equipment such as fax, phone, copier, scanner, printers, etc.
  • Ability to follow a process.
  • Strong professional customer service skills, including active listening, prompt service and follow-up.
  • Strong decision analysis and problem-solving skills; ability to draw conclusions and justify decisions. Must be able to communicate issues to management. Ability to learn and understand corporate policies and procedures and how they relate to Yulista Solutions, LLC goals.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical computations.
  • High degree of self-motivation and the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to multi-task.

Required Qualifications

  • Has at least two years’ work experience as an Aircraft Dispatcher or Flight Follower for a 14 CFR 121 (“Operating Requirements: Domestic, Flag, and Supplemental Operations”); 125; or 129 (“Operations: Foreign Air Carriers and Foreign Operators of U.S.-Registered Aircraft Engaged in Common Carriage”) Operator; or as Flight Operations Specialist for a military service; or an Aircraft Dispatcher Certificate issued under 14 CFR 65, “Certification: Airmen Other Than Flight Crewmembers.”
  • Is trained in hazardous waste operations and emergency response.
  • Holds a DOE L Clearance.
