About the Team:
Our ATE Claims team assesses and manages legal expenses insurance claims that support litigation across a range of legal disciplines. We work closely with solicitors and legal professionals, helping fund the costs associated with pursuing legal action.
Unlike many claims environments, this role involves minimal inbound calls and focuses primarily on claim assessment, policy interpretation, relationship management and written communication. Most communication is conducted via email, creating a steady and professional workload rather than a high-volume call centre environment.
What You'll Be Doing:
As a Claims Handler you'll manage your own caseload and be responsible for:
Assessing legal expenses insurance claims against policy terms and conditions.
Investigating the validity of claims and gathering relevant evidence.
Reviewing and authorising payment of:
Medical reports
Expert reports
Medical records costs
Travel expenses
Other legal disbursements
Calculating settlement values and issuing valid claim payments.
Maintaining accurate claims records and reserves.
Managing approximately 40 claims per month.
Building relationships with solicitors and legal professionals.
Managing your own workload, diary and priorities.
Ensuring service standards and SLA requirements are achieved.
Supporting monthly file audit and reporting activities.
Who We're Looking For:
We're open to candidates from either legal or insurance backgrounds.
You may currently be:
A Claims Handler dealing with Personal Injury, Clinical Negligence, Liability or Professional Negligence claims.
A Legal Expenses Claims Handler.
A Paralegal or Legal Assistant looking to gain broader commercial experience.
An early-career legal professional seeking exposure to insurance and legal expenses.

Previous claims handling or legal case management experience.
Experience within insurance, legal services or litigation.
Strong written communication skills.
Excellent attention to detail.
The ability to analyse information and interpret policy wording.

Please Note:
This role is based in Croydon and requires attendance in the office three days per week. Candidates should be comfortable committing to a 12-month fixed-term contract and be able to travel regularly to the Croydon office.
