The Opportunity
The Cloud Development Lead position is within our Infectious Disease business unit in Abbott Rapid Diagnostics ID. This group is located on site at the Towne Centre site in San Diego, California. This is not a hybrid or remote role.
Our diagnostic solutions are used in hospitals, laboratories and clinics around the globe. The crucial information derived from our tests, instruments and informatics systems are often the first step in patient care decision making for hundreds of health conditions from heart attacks to blood disorders to infectious diseases and cancers.
Overview: We are seeking a Cloud Development Lead to provide technical leadership in implementing cloud solutions. This role focuses on guiding software engineering teams without direct people management responsibilities. You will work closely with both local and remote teams to develop and support software products and platforms, promoting Agile principles and continuous improvement.
What you will do:
Lead a global team of software developers to create high-quality cloud solutions.
Collaborate with various teams (local and remote) to coordinate delivery timelines.
Facilitate decisions on scope, task duration, and product requirements.
Evaluate and recommend improvements to current development processes.
Utilize Static Code Analysis tools such as Veracode or Fortify on Demand.
Demonstrate proficiency in front-end frameworks like React or Angular.
Develop using modern languages such as Python or C#.
Implement REST APIs using technologies like FastAPI or ASP.NET Core Web API.
Apply knowledge of network protocols, integration, and cybersecurity.
Understand and comply with Medical Device regulations (ISO 13485, ISO 14971, IEC 62304, 21 CFR part 820.30, FDA SW Guidelines).
Deliver products for the Medical Device IVD industry.
Use cloud solution techniques and protocols like TLS/HTTPS and REST/SOAP.
Ensure quality by understanding the consequences of improper performance.
Identify and solve complex problems creatively.
Troubleshoot and resolve issues, making decisions under uncertainty.
Establish best practices in software and systems development.
Develop complex technical project plans and schedules.
Exhibit professional behavior and build productive relationships.
Comply with established business policies.
Foster a workplace environment of mutual respect and clear communication.
Collaborate across departments and geographies to best serve customers.
Work with geographically dispersed teams across time zones.
Understand Authentication/Authorization and OAuth 2.0/Open ID Connect standards.
Use Infrastructure as Code technologies like Terraform.
Required Qualifications
Hands on experience developing Cloud solutions. Experience in using Agile methodologies (e.g. SCRUM, Kanban, TDD, etc)
8 or more years of experience in systems and/or software development involving interoperability of connected devices.
Bachelor of Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent experience (MS preferred).
Preferred Qualifications
Hands-on experience with Azure Cloud Services such as Kubernetes service, Azure Function, Azure Data Factory.
Hands-on experience with relational and non-relational databases such as Azure SQL Database.
Python Fast API
Positive, “can-do” attitude with exceptional technical background.
Ability to motivate and grow team members.
Hands-on approach with attention to detail.
Experience in Agile product development

The base pay for this position is
$109,300.00 – $218,500.00In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
