This position will support Banner Family Pharmacy - Specialty Care. This department is responsible for providing direct patient care to patients and their caregivers by assisting with entering and setting up orders with patients and providers, non-clinical assessments, and working with specialty pharmacists and the fulfillment center to ensure patients receive their specialty prescriptions accurately and timely. As a Retail Pharmacy Technician, you will mainly be responsible for ringing up prescriptions at the front counter, filling prescriptions, taking refill orders, inventory control, and ordering. Previous retail pharmacy experience is preferred.  

We are seeking a full-time Retail Pharmacy technician to work a Monday-Friday schedule, within the hours 7:30AM-6PM. This role also offers the majority of the weekends and most major holidays off. This position is located in Tucson, AZ and offers occasional voluntary overtime on weekdays or weekends.

POSITION SUMMARY
This position will prepare, dispense, and compound medication under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist. Provide prescription support services for patients to ensure safe, appropriate, effective and efficient delivery of medication therapy. Provide excellent customer service skills, high attention to detail, strong problem solving, documentation and computer skills. Work closely with the multidisciplinary healthcare team to support pharmaceutical care activities, complete pharmacy billing activities, record keeping, reporting, inventory management, and arrange appropriate medication delivery.

CORE FUNCTIONS
1. Under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, review and interpret prescriptions.

2. Prepare and dispense appropriate amount of medication under supervision of a pharmacist. Deliver medications accurately to the patient.

3. Answer phones, accept prescriptions, and may communicate with patients in waiting area.

4. Assist with inventory, maintain a clean work environment, and assist with any other administrative duties as assigned by supervising pharmacists or senior technicians.

5. Follow policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements and perform other work assignments


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
 

Requires Pharmacy Technician licensure and active Pharmacy Technician certification OR Pharmacy Intern licensure in the state of practice.

Incumbents in Arizona are also required to provide the AZ Board of Pharmacy Wallet Card at time of hire.

Minimal experience, typically gained through 0-2 years relevant work experience. Ability to attend and successfully complete 160 hours of on the job training required. Strong customer service focus, superior problem-solving abilities. Ability to complete moderate to difficult mathematical calculations using a hand-held calculator is required.

BSS Registry Team members and Travelers are not eligible to drive on behalf of Banner and are not required to possess a valid driver’s license or be eligible for coverage under the company’s auto insurance policy.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Associates or bachelor’s degree in related field preferred. Proficiency and experience with third party claims adjudication and claims rejection reconciliation preferred. Proficiency and experience with non-sterile, sterile and hazardous drug compounding preferred. Work experience which demonstrates analytical ability, judgment and interpersonal skills in pharmacy or healthcare preferred. Experience and proficiency with computer software applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) or comparable program.

Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
