The Psychiatric Medical Assistant at the Oregon State Hospital is part of the Psychiatric Medical Assistant Team and ensures delivery of care by helping to coordinate allied services in consultation with licensed psychiatric providers under the direction of the Chief of Psychiatry, program supervisors, or their delegates. Clinical services include interviewing patients and collateral sources, reviewing and summarizing medical records, and collating and summarizing laboratory testing. This position collects, summarizes, and interprets information at the unit or hospital level to ensure compliance with regulations, progress towards quality improvement goals and assess patient outcomes. This position also summarizes sensitive clinical information in the form of draft medical notes such as admission and progress notes, and discharge summaries.

What We Are Looking For
Minimum Qualifications: These qualifications must be reflected in your application for consideration.
Two years of secretarial or basic administrative support experience that includes records processing, generating documents, and gathering and sorting data; OR
An associate degree in general office occupations and one year of experience with records processing, generating documents, and gathering and sorting data; OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
Must possess an active medical assistant certification (i.e. NCMA, RMA, AAMA).
Completion of a Medical Assistant Training Program at a school accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools.

Experience working with the documentation requirements for medical billing/coding.
Knowledge of psychiatric terminology and psychiatric medications.
Recent experience with phlebotomy and EKG experience strongly preferred.
Intermediate/expert proficiency with Microsoft office applications, especially Word and Excel, and electronic medical records.
Excellent spelling and grammar.
Experience with data collection and documentation compliance review.
Completion of training to be a medical scribe or 1 year of experience providing medical scribe services to a physician strongly preferred.
Preference Statement: Preference will be extended to applicants with experience working in a psychiatry or developmental disability inpatient clinical setting; inpatient psychiatry (hospital) setting strongly preferred.

This announcement is for one, full-time, permanent, SEIU represented Psychiatric Medical Assistant (Administrative Specialist 1) based in Salem, Oregon.

Employment is contingent upon a criminal records check, an abuse check and a driving records check that meets OHA criteria at the time of hire and throughout employment.
The salary listed is the non-PERS qualifying range. If the successful candidate qualifies for PERS, the salary range will increase by 6.95%. For more information, see the Classification and Compensation page.
