Manufacturing Engineering Intern- Mechanical Design (12 months)

Lumentum Switzerland AG is a leading design center of ultrafast pico- and femtosecond laser systems featuring excellent performance and long-term opto-mechanical stability. Our products mainly serve commercial applications in micromachining markets.

We seek an energetic Manufacturing Engineering Intern for our Manufacturing Equipment Development Team, to work in a fast paced, international development environment. The candidate should have adequate skills in Mechanical Design and/or Mechatronics. The position is limited to 1 year.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Mechanical design of manufacturing tools, jigs, fixtures and stations using SolidWorks (independently or by assisting mechanical designers)
  • Documentation of new/modified designs.
  • Support in installation and troubleshooting of manual or robotic manufacturing stations.
  • Work within cross-functional teams and collaborate with development partners and related outside services.

Success Indicators:

  • Experience with mechanical design with a good understanding of general mechanical engineering practices.
  • Experience with pneumatics, sensors and actuators.
  • Strong analytical skills, judgment and problem solving ability.
  • Team player with very good communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or degree from a Technical College in Mechanics, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or in a similar field.
  • Experience with CAD tools for 3D design, modelling and 2D drawing creation (SolidWorks preferred).
  • Excellent English verbal/written communication skills. German is a plus.
  • High level of integrity, work ethic, responsiveness and commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Must be eligible to work in Switzerland as an intern on a full-time basis.

Additional Desired Experience:

  • Manufacturing experience/exposure.
  • Familiarity with modelling and simulation of robotic/automated systems
  • Experience in programming and troubleshooting PLCs.
