We are currently hiring a Senior Travel Insurance Claims Specialist based in our Head Office in Burnaby.
Please note that this is a hybrid role based out of our Burnaby, BC office. Applicants who are not located within commuting distance of our Head Office or are not looking to relocate to the Greater Vancouver/Lower Mainland/Fraser Valley region will not be considered.
As a Senior Travel Insurance Claims Specialist at BCAA, you will play a critical role in ensuring fair and efficient travel insurance claims handling. You will be responsible for administering the claims process and negotiating settlements in line with Provincial Statutes and BCAA’s corporate policies. You will also work closely with third-party adjusters, ensuring claims are processed accurately and in a timely manner, while maintaining high standards of service and professionalism.
In this role, you will be tasked with reviewing complex claims, investigating escalations, and ensuring that Service Delivery Partners adhere to BCAA’s standards. You will act as a key liaison between the claims team and other internal departments, as well as external stakeholders, ensuring that claims are settled fairly and cost-effectively. Who you are:
You are highly experienced in travel claims assessment, with the ability to manage and settle complex claims effectively.
You are detail-oriented and possess strong analytical skills, allowing you to assess and validate claims accurately.
You thrive in a fast-paced environment and can manage multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining a high level of professionalism.
You are an excellent communicator, both in writing and verbally, able to build relationships with internal teams, external partners, and insured claimants.
You are proactive in identifying opportunities for improvement in claims processes and are comfortable working independently or as part of a team.
What you’ll do:
Administer the travel insurance claims process, ensuring compliance with BCAA’s policies, Provincial Statutes, and the BC Insurance Act.
Review claims information, including hospital records, estimates, invoices, and receipts, to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Investigate escalated claims and work with third-party adjusters to determine the validity of claims and negotiate settlements.
Attend Case Review Committee meetings with Service Delivery Partners and provide guidance on claims handling.
Ensure claims are processed in a timely manner and that settlements are conducted professionally and fairly.
Maintain organized claims files and ensure that all documentation is complete and up-to-date in accordance with department standards.
Collaborate with other BCAA departments, including Compliance, Finance, and Underwriting, to ensure best practices and stay current with regulatory expectations.
Periodically step in to directly negotiate and settle claims when needed.
What you bring:
You hold a Diploma in Insurance or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
You have 5-9 years of experience in travel claims assessment, with a strong understanding of insurance statutes and claims processes.
You are proficient in using MS Office and have strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
You are highly organized and possess excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
You are comfortable working in stressful situations and handling irate individuals with professionalism and care.
Bonus skills and experience!
CIP designation.
Second language proficiency.
Medical background to support claims assessments.
Experience with Salesforce or similar claims management systems.

The salary range for this position is $80,484.96 to $100,606.20 and is determined via job-related knowledge, skills, experience, certifications, market demand and internal equity. In addition to base salary and BCAA benefits, this position is eligible for a performance bonus target of 9%, with the opportunity to earn up to 15%.
