As the Human Resources Business Partner is an Internal Consultant/Advisor to regional resources and Associate-Owners for all Human Resources Management disciplines.

We are hiring an Human Resources Business Partner to support our SDM stores in the GTA-North region.

As this is a field HR position, there will be frequent travel (3-4 days/week) throughout the GTA North region, and as such a valid driver’s license will be required.

You will be fully conversant with corporate policies, National Standards, Associate-Owner guidelines and related legislation. As the Human Resources Business Partner, you will be accountable for all employee relations/labour relations activities and for the implementation of all Human Resource initiatives in the region.

Duties:

  • Leadership & Coaching -Coach Associates, management team members, and business unit teams on all facets of HR i.e. employee relations issues, HR policy and legislation interpretation and application and all other HR programs and practices to support Associates with delivering a consistent and positive employee experience in their stores.
  • Employee Engagement Survey –Advise and guide Associates in the interpretation and follow-up of store staff surveys post survey, including action plan development
  • Identify and monitor high risk stores and manage risk with the Associate and business unit teams. Review positive employee relations best practices with Associates and store leadership teams on a regular basis. Provide interpretation of store HR policies and procedures to ensure consistency with provincial legislation and common law decisions i.e. Terminations; human rights; etc. Follow up on sensitive/escalated HR complaints, ensuring adequate resolution and risk mitigation
  • HR Standards - Ensure National HR Standards and best practices are in place for all stores
  • Compensation – Consult and recommend wage and annual merit adjustments to Associates for their store staff, in accordance with Market wage guidance
  • Store Acquisitions - Provide hands-on human resource leadership and Business Unit support in any acquisition activity, new store openings, relocations, store closures and associated downsizing
  • Liaising - Liaise and advise with Peers Representatives to increase awareness and support for new processes and initiatives implemented by the company.
  • HR Orientation - Conduct regular HR Onboarding/HR 101 sessions for new Associates and their management team members
  • Presentations/Updates – provide weekly HR updates to Operations business unit team and on weekly district calls to Associate Owners. Attend quarterly Operations Business Unit meetings and presenting HR content as requested by Operations and/or HR Director
  • Talent Development – Promote and bring awareness to the LEAD program in stores, to continue to build the talent pipeline for key leadership and hard to fill roles.

Skills and Experience:

  • Education - Degree or Diploma in Human Resource Management/Industrial Relations or a related discipline
  • Experience - A minimum of 5-7 years of progressive human resource experience with detailed knowledge of Employee Relations & HR Business Partnering, provincial Human Resources/employment legislation and regulations.
  • Project Management - ability to plan and implement programs and projects
  • Computer Skills - Strong proficiency using Office 365, including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams etc.
  • Self-Management - working autonomously using strong judgment, and problem solving
  • Relationship Building - Ability to establish strong relationships, building trust, confidence, and influencing skills, working cross-functionally across multiple areas/departments
  • Presentation Skills – comfortable leading meetings as required and delivering presentations/training and updates to groups
