JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for all general warehouse functions including loading, unloading, manual depal, receiving, put-a-way and selection of products when qualified and as needed following preferred work methods (PWMs). Each function requires specific equipment and/or process certification. Requires working in the freezer, cooler and dry warehouse environments with extreme cold and/or warm temperatures. Performs all duties safely, accurately and meets set productivity standards and goals

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Follow warehouse management system directed tasking to transport pallets of product safely between staging areas (docks, pack/holds, manual depal area and storage areas (rack) following established preferred work methods (PWMs).
  • Put away product using material handling equipment (MHE), primarily a reach forklift.
  • Inspect product being moved for shortages, damage, quality, or deterioration of packing and report to supervisor.
  • Replenish product to full pallet or hand stack pick location/slot from reserve location following directed tasking and established PWMs.
  • Remove shrink wrap, bands or tape when placing a pallet into a selection location (for replenishments).
  • Ensure pallets are secured with shrink wrap for effective delivery to a door or staging area and rack storage (for puts).
  • When carrying multiple pallets, pallets with heavier items should be transported on the bottom and pallets with lighter items should be placed on the top to prevent damage to the lighter products.
  • Deliver stacked pallets to the assigned area on the loading dock to ensure that products are accurately staged and can be systematically loaded.
  • Must complete the forklift operator certification process and testing.
  • Adhere to warehouse management system directed selection pick path, accurately select product from inventory, label correctly, stage product on pallet and transport to the staging area for shipment.
  • Stack product on the pallet with heavier items on the bottom and lighter items on top to prevent damage to the lighter products and to maintain a secure pallet.
  • Secure pallets with shrink wrap according to established PWMs for delivery.
  • Record any necessary/required item information into the warehouse management system.
  • Inspect product being moved for shortages, damage, quality, or deterioration of packing and report to supervisor.
  • Must complete the pallet jack certification process and testing.
  • Observe trailer for cleanliness before unloading.
  • Convey any unsanitary conditions to the supervisor.
  • Communicate load, product or pallet issues to the supervisor.
  • Unload inbound foodservice products, supplies or equipment from trailers, rail cars, or shipping containers onto the dock for receipt utilizing material handling equipment following established preferred work methods (PWMs) to avoid damage to equipment or product, and according to specified configurations for storage and shipment.
  • Reconfigure inbound pallets to meet regional distribution center (RDC) storage requirements (floor or slip sheet loads).
  • Oversee product being moved for shortages, damage, quality, or deterioration of packing and report to supervisor.
  • Verify refrigerated (cooler) and frozen product temperatures are taken according to established PWMs.
  • Follow the temperature abuse process and established PWMs if the product temperature is out of the accepted tolerance range.
  • Control door lights to inform the driver if they are clear to position the trailer to the door or pull trailer from the door.
  • Apply shrink wrap to all lumped pallets to ensure they are secured for effective delivery following established PWMs.
  • Administer shrink wrap to other pallets as needed to secure products for storage and shipment.
  • Must complete the forklift certification process and testing and be able to perform the PWMs.
  • Load product onto trucks corresponding to truck mapping and any special instructions; according to established preferred work methods (PWMs) to avoid damage to product or equipment and to maintain load stability and balance to ensure driver safety.
  • Hand load product onto trucks as required.
  • Ensure pallets received meet defined requirements.
  • Enter/scan accurately upon item receipt the license plate number (LPN), catch-weight, manufacture date, expiration date, etc. into the warehouse management system utilizing radio frequency (RF) equipment.
  • Assure all item information is appropriately recorded into the warehouse management system by verifying and entering piece count and weights against bills of lading, invoices, and other records.
  • Inspect product being moved for shortages, damage, quality, or deterioration of packing and report to supervisor.
  • Record all overages, shortages, and damages on the OS&D form.
  • Log and communicate vendor compliance issues by completing the vendor compliance form during receipt according to established preferred work methods (PWMs).
  • Apply blind LPNs according to established PWMs if the manufacturer hasn’t provided license plates.
  • Guarantee proper operation of dock doors, plates, lights and locks.
  • Report repair or service needs to supervisor to avoid damage or an unsafe condition.
  • Must complete the receiving certification process and testing.
  • Review pallets for quality issues and notify the supervisor of them.
  • Inspect product for shortages, damage, quality, or deterioration of packing and complete an inventory control exception form to notify of the exception.
  • Remove/deface any original LPN labels before processing donor pallets.
  • Operate material handling equipment (MHE) and/or hand stack product to build, label and reconfigure donor pallets to operating company (OpCo) order requirements.
  • Manually reconfigure and label RDC residual inventory pallets as directed by the warehouse management system and according to established PWMs.
  • Ensure pallet labels are affixed to the correct order and residual pallets.
  • Use MHE equipment only on a product that can’t be easily damaged or broken.
  • Hand move (lump or handle) cases when necessary to avoid product damage.
  • Utilize RF equipment to scan and systematically complete pallets after all pallet processing is complete and confirmed accurate.
  • Follow the warehouse management system to ensure required product date rotation and tracking.
  • Track and report all indirect work time in other job functions to support work measurement.
  • Work effectively with immediate supervisor to minimize warehouse shrink/damage (product loss).
  • Responsible for the neatness and cleanliness of assigned work areas and travel aisles, and the accuracy of warehouse locations.
  • Report any unfixable/unsafe issues immediately to the supervisor.
  • Detect and enforce all safety rules to eliminate accidents and injuries.
  • Operate appropriate material handling equipment (MHE), such as forklifts and pallet jacks, in a safe and orderly manner to eliminate accidents and injuries.
  • Observe proper lifting techniques and physical work practices following established PWMs.
  • Establish that MHE is maintained (perform daily inspection) and clean; report repair or service needs to supervisor to minimize equipment damage and downtime.
  • Use warehouse computers and radio frequency (RF) equipment safely and professionally to avoid damage to equipment.
  • Understand and comply with all applicable company policies (i.e. attendance, code of business conduct and ethics, associate handbook, etc.
  • Comply with all applicable State/Federal laws, regulations, and policies (i.e. OSHA {Occupational Health and Safety Administration}, Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP), etc.).
  • Supports food safety policies, standard operating procedures, and prerequisite food safety control programs that meet legal and quality requirements and industry best practices as defined in our food safety commitment documentation.


QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred.

Experience

  • 6 months of previous warehouse experience and/or training preferred.
  • Material handling equipment experience preferred.
  • Reach truck experience preferred.
  • Crown and/or Raymond reach truck experience a plus.

Requirement

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must pass a functional capacity test.

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations

  • Certification on material handling equipment is required, or the ability to become certified. See the requirement within each individual role.

  • Regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, contained toxic or caustic chemicals, low voltage electrical equipment, and vibration.
    The noise level in the work environment usually is loud.
  • This is a full-time position.
  • Must have the ability to work a varying schedule which might include shift work (days or nights), weekdays or weekends, and some holidays.
  • Work hours may vary or change based on customer orders, departmental or business requirements.
  • The position does not require travel.
