JOB SUMMARY:
The Security Officer Armed provides protective services for the entire hospital, the enforcement of hospital policies, parking and traffic control. A valid Texas driver license is required. Duties involve the enforcement of rules and regulations pertaining to the operation and parking of vehicles as well as the security of persons, buildings, and property on hospital premises. Work is performed under general supervision in accordance with established procedures and is evaluated on the effective implementation of hospital regulations, as well as adherence to departmental guidelines. Security is responsible for morgue duties.
REPORTS TO:
JOB SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Patrols the facilities inside and outside to ensure the safety and security of the facilities,
patients, visitors and employees a minimum of three (3) times per shift.
• Locks or unlocks areas as required
• Responds to alarms.
• Responds in a timely, but safe, manner to any call
• Issues tickets to illegally parked vehicles
• Completes and turns in daily recap sheet.
• Completes reports in a clear, concise and accurate manner.
• Performs grounds maintenance surveillance surveys, as assigned.
• Reports on time for shifts duties.
• Drive Courtesy Van to assist patients, staff and visitors.
• Escorts individuals in a timely manner as needed to ensure their safety.
• Picks up and returns patient valuables as requested.
• Logs all lost and found articles
• Meets required 100 percent attendance of staff meetings unless supervisor approves absence.
• Patrols parking lot during employee shift change.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• High School diploma or GED.
• Previous law enforcement, military, correctional or security experience.
REQUIRED LICENSURES/CERTIFICATIONS/REGISTRATIONS:
Must possess or be able to obtain a Texas Private Security Bureau Registration as a Level III Commissioned Security Officer.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to learn the policies and procedures of both the hospital and department. Ability to learn the location of buildings, departments and offices at the hospital. Ability to react calmly and to perform physically strenuous activities in an emergency situation. Skill in courteously, effectively and tactfully assisting employees, visitors and patients.

PHYSICAL CAPABILITIES:
Must be able to perform moderate to heavy physical exertion. Standing and walking for long periods of time. Physically restrain patients or unruly visitors when necessary. Assist in moving patients.
ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Must be able to work in adverse temperatures or climatic conditions. Respond to any type of
emergency 24 hours a day. Could come in contact with infectious diseases, toxic or irritant
chemicals. Must be able to work flexible hours, all shifts.
• Security Guards will at some point find themselves in a situation where patients and or visitors
are not cooperative or even confrontational. These types of situations may result in the officer
having to defend themselves or protect others from harm.
• The application of restraints may be necessary on patients and or visitors who pose a threat to
themselves or others. Patients will be restrained utilizing patient restraints. Visitors may be
restrained utilizing department issued hand restraints.
• May be exposed to harmful and dangerous chemicals. May be exposed to infectious bacteria
and diseases.
