Position Overview: The Senior Vice President, Energy is entrusted with leading the Energy team and the execution of its strategy to both decarbonize EDC’s managed assets and provide for new energy generation at these assets.

This Leadership role within Asset Management is focused on driving towards positive net income projects for NYCEDC while moving rapidly toward a net zero overall asset portfolio. The Energy Senior Vice President is responsible for carrying out three strategies to achieve this portfolio goal:

  1. Operational excellence in facility energy management
  2. Portfolio-wide optimization of energy costs
  3. Deployment of assets for distributed energy resources

The skills and responsibilities that the Energy Senior Vice President will need to oversee the three strategies include relationship management, leasing, energy development and planning, budgeting and financial optimization, as well as developing cumulative and asset-specific energy strategies, and portfolio-wide performance measures.  A critical aspect of the Energy Senior Vice President’s role will be tailoring energy strategies based on the diverse asset classes within Asset Management’s portfolio and working effectively with asset managers within Portfolio Management and colleagues within other departments the Asset Management Division (Property Operations and Design & Construction). The Energy Senior Vice President will also help with special projects at properties such as the Hunts Point Food Distribution Center and the Sunset Park campuses. This role will also supervise matrixed team members to carry out financial and policy analysis, tenant engagement, project management, and contract administration.  Reporting directly to the Senior Vice President of Development within Asset Management, the Senior Vice President of Energy is an critical leader in achieving the EDC Energy policy objectives.

Central to this role is the emphasis on business acumen, experience within the energy (renewable and conventional) space and the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead team in creating and executing energy strategies for operational excellence in facility energy management, portfolio-wide optimization of energy costs, and deployment of assets for distributed energy resources in order to comply with EDC’s Strategic Energy Master Plan.
  • Develop and lead programs to increase building energy performance through energy efficiency retrofits, green leasing practices, and strategic energy sourcing
  • Evaluate and execute upon opportunities for new energy asset development, drafting and administering procurements and/or capital projects to develop, expand, or reposition energy assets.
  • Measure policy impacts of energy efforts on net income generation and portfolio-wide net zero attainment.
  • Coordinate with other asset managers and portfolios for energy-related tenant engagement and negotiations.
  • Train, manage and oversee staff to execute on financial analysis for energy capital projects, communications (including presentations), project management, asset management and negotiations.
  • Manage the portfolio team and work across asset management portfolios, as well as with other departments including Property Operations, Design & Construction, Planning and Development, Initiatives, Strategic Investments Group, Strategy, and Finance to successfully execute energy projects.
  • Develop and/or participate in special projects with City Hall, including direct interaction with the Deputy Mayor and City Hall staff.
  • Direct the preparation of various contracts, requests for proposals (RFPs), and reports according to company and management expectations and guidelines and consults with Senior Management as directed regarding preparation of key correspondence and investment memoranda.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree and at least 10 years of experience in the energy sector, economic development, city or regional planning, real estate development, asset management, and/or a related field. In all cases, candidates should have experience working on energy in real estate assets.
  • An independent and strategic thinker with ability to structure and sell a plan
  • Proficient in project management as well as financial analysis, alternatives analysis and other forms of quantitative decision-making
  • Energetic, creative, and detail-oriented project management skill set
  • Demonstrated written, verbal, and analytical skills with an emphasis on strategic and persuasive communication
  • Fluency in Microsoft Office
  • New York City residency (required within 180 days of hire)
Salary Range
$170,000$180,000 USD
