Seize your opportunity to make a personal impact as a Scientific Programmer/ Data Wrangler on a team delivering administrative, scientific, technical and logistical support to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Division of Program Coordination, Planning, and Strategic Initiatives (DPCPSI). You will be part of a new team supporting the NIH DPCPSI Office of Research Innovation, Validation and Application (ORIVA). Responsibilities include data curation, data wrangling, bioinformatics, and scientific computing to support utilizing modeling methods such as computational approaches and New Approach Methodologies (NAMs).

HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT
•    Be an integral part of a scientific team including researchers, data analysts, and technologists
•    Collect, compile, and process large datasets from various non-animal research models, including in vitro, in silico, and alternative experimental methods
•    Develop and maintain databases and data management systems to store and organize research data effectively
•    Ensure compliance with data protection policies and ethical guidelines related to research data
•    Collaborating with researchers, scientists, and technical staff to understand data requirements and provide tailored data solutions

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED: 

Required: 
•    BA/BS in computer science, computational linguistics, data science, or related field, and 8+ years of professional experience as a data curator, data-wrangler, bioinformatician and/or expert in scientific computing 
•    Experience developing and maintaining large databases and data management systems to store and organize research data effectively
•    Experience performing data cleaning and transformation to ensure data integrity, consistency, and accuracy
•    Experience creating and maintaining detailed documentation of data processing workflows, procedures, and standards
•    Experience conducting exploratory data analysis to identify trends, anomalies, and insights
•    Proficiency in programming languages commonly used for data manipulation (e.g., Python, R)
•    Experience with database management systems and tools (e.g., SQL, NoSQL databases)
•    Strong understanding of data cleaning, transformation, and validation techniques
•    Provide quality assurance on deliverables and timely delivery
•    Strong verbal and written communications skills
•    Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail

Preferred:
•    MA/MS in relevant field and 6+ years of professional experience
•    Experience in NAMs or a related scientific field
•    Familiarity with biology/toxicology modeling and AI approaches (e.g., ML, expert systems, computer vision)
•    Experienced model and application developer with strong background in computational methods
•    Knowledge of mathematical and statistical methods applied to modeling biological process and systems including adsorption, metabolism, toxicology, pharmacology, pharmacokinetics and/or clinical data analysis
•    Experience with cloud-based data storage and processing platforms (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud)
•    Working knowledge of Real World Data and NAMs

The likely salary range for this position is $97,968 - $115,000. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
