Summary of Position

The Peer Recovery Specialist (PRS) assists clients with articulating personal goals for recovery; assisting participants in determining reasonable and holistic steps in recovery; and identifying barriers to recovery goals. A PRS will assist individuals in identifying personal strengths in daily living and recovery skills. In addition, a PRS will teach participants problem solving skills, how to identify and combat negative self-talk, how to build social supports, and how to self-advocate. PRS will intervene, coordinate and provide connection to care as directed by the clinical team. PRS will complete screens/assessments and evidence protocols as trained and supported through Centerstone.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Verbalize understanding of what recovery means and articulate it to others.
  • Assist clients with identifying personal strengths in daily living and recovery skills.
  • Assist staff in identifying program elements that are supportive or barriers to recovery.
  • Facilitate evidence based protocols, safety plans, complete screens and risk assessments as trained.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary meetings to partner with Centerstone programs and community partners.
  • Coordinate and assist with crisis intervention/ connection to care.
  • Coordinate referrals to inpatient, residential behavioral health/mental health/substance treatment.
  • Transport clients to appointments and to access resources.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to meet communication requirements of certification. 
  • Basic computer literacy is required.

Qualifications

Education Level

Must be 18 years of age or older, have lived experience receiving mental health, substance use or gambling treatment. High school diploma or equivalent.

Years of Experience

Minimum of one year of recovery.

Experience within the criminal justice system preferred.

Required Certification/Licensure

Must have a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance.

PRS Certification is required. Must be able to verify completion of state-approved training program and passing score on certification exam, if not currently certified, must become certified within 90 days unless otherwise approved by the hiring manager.

Requirements of the certification which include:

  • Lived Experience with Mental Illness/ Substance Use or Gambling Disorder
  • Willing to share personal recovery story to assist others
  • Assist clients in determining reasonable and holistic steps moving into recovery and identifying barriers to recovery goals

Pay Range:

$16.50--$23.10
