Compensation Overview
The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

This Counsel role is responsible for providing a broad range of cost-effective, high quality legal services involving property and casualty insurance regulatory law, for Business Insurance Workers’ Compensation, Commercial Auto, General Liability/Umbrella and/or Property lines. The Counsel position handles moderately complex legal matters in support of commercial product lines, legal agile line leads and the product organization.
The Business Insurance Product organization clients are primarily located in Hartford. We are open to most domestic locations where Travelers has an office with the understanding that travel to Hartford offices for significant meetings or in support of agile team/sprint kick-offs will be a necessary part of the job. Travelers offers a hybrid work location model that is designed to support flexibility.
This position is also available as a role for our pilot Restart program, a recruitment and development program that is open to qualified legal professionals including those who are looking to reenter the workforce or practice of law after an extended break. What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?
- Minimum of 5 years of prior legal experience preferred.
- Knowledge of Business Insurance and its products (Commercial Auto, General Liability/Umbrella, Property or Workers' Compensation).
What is a Must Have?
- Juris Doctorate or equivalent International legal degree; graduate of an accredited law school.
- Minimum of 3 years of prior legal experience.
- Active license to practice law in the state(s) in which representation is required.
