The primary purpose of this position is to support the underwriting function through customer service and rating and processing of underwriting files. Operate within assigned level of authority. May participate in structured underwriting training events and programs to increase skill set.
- Assists Underwriting Team in pricing new and renewal accounts in accordance with business strategies.
- Applies the fundamental concepts of underwriting risks and adheres to underwriting guidelines
- Collaborates with underwriting team and receives assignments from direct supervisor and team
- Makes appropriate decisions within own underwriting authority and makes thoughtful recommendations when outside authority level
- Develops strong customer service skills (consistency, quick response, knowledge of products) and establishes the foundation to interact (both written and verbal) and effectively deal with account issues
- Engages in marketing calls
- Develops an understanding of broker needs/challenges
- Conducts appropriate reviews in order to prepare referrals for transactions above authority level to appropriate underwriter
- Develops underwriting strategy and sales skills
