As a Principal Engineer, you will be a visionary technical leader responsible for architecting and building the next generation of our Developer Productivity solutions. You will tackle some of the most complex technical challenges at a massive scale, leveraging cutting-edge technologies to drive business outcomes and create unparalleled customer experiences. You will be an influential member of the engineering team, setting technical direction, mentoring senior engineers, and leading the design and implementation of highly scalable, resilient, and secure systems. This is a hands-on leadership role for a disruptive thinker who is passionate about leveraging technology to solve real-world problems.

Walmart’s Global Tech Platforms (GTP) team powers the tools and technologies that thousands of developers rely on every day. When we help our developers build faster and better, millions of Walmart associates can serve hundreds of millions of customers more effectively — creating real impact at a global scale. As part of the GTP team at IDC, you’ll help build and evolve the platforms that enable our engineering community to do their best work.   • Lead engineering teams to design, build, and deploy developer-focused platforms that improve productivity and experience.
  • Drive large-scale, cross-functional projects by translating requirements into technical solutions and ensuring successful execution.
  • Collaborate with engineers, designers, and product managers to shape platform vision, architecture, and implementation.
  • Develop and maintain scalable, high-performance applications with seamless frontend–backend integration.
  • Analyze and resolve issues through root-cause investigation and performance optimization.
  • Partner with global engineering and product teams to share knowledge and deliver aligned solutions.
  • Enhance and streamline software development processes to improve efficiency.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership and communication skills across distributed teams.

  • Applied AI Skills: Generative AI, LLMs, agentic and RAG frameworks; architecting scalable AI systems and mentoring teams in AI innovation.
  • Frontend Expertise: React, React Native, Redux, Webpack, Node.js, HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and building responsive UIs.
  • Backend Expertise: Java, J2EE, Spring Framework, JVM internals (concurrency, multithreading).
  • Strong foundations in algorithms, data structures, system design, and distributed systems.
  • Experience with RESTful services, SOA, SQL, and relational databases (Postgres, SQL Server, BigQuery).
  • Familiarity with Elasticsearch, Kafka, and Python.
  • Cloud & DevOps: Experience deploying applications in cloud environments, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, logging, and production operations.
  • Proven ability to design and operate scalable, highly available distributed systems.
  • An Engineering Degree - B.E/B.Tech/MS in any stream – Computer Science preferred.
  • 14+ years of relevant experience, Minimum of 5 years of experience with agile principles and practices. Experience in leading Scrum teams.
  • Hands on experience in building scalable cloud native software platforms/applications
  • Very strong understanding and experience in the area of software development lifecycle.
  • Strong Java/J2EE, React skill (good to have)
  • Strong understanding of architecture, database, messaging (Kafka services)
  • SQL/Cosmos/Azure database proficiency
  • Experience in leading and delivering full-stack developer platform applications would be desirable
