The Role:

Rakuten Kobo Inc. is seeking an experienced data and BI leader to join our Data Science team as Manager, Data Storytelling & Insights. You’ll play an instrumental role in cultivating a data-driven culture by leading and mentoring a team of analysts as they navigate complex business priorities. This role calls for a proven track record of driving analytics and BI strategy, including managing data migration to cloud platforms. You will also be a trusted partner to the business, collaborating with various units to gather and align on requirements, prioritize initiatives, and translate complex data into actionable insights that go beyond basic charting and inform strategic decisions.

The Skill Set:

Must-haves:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree preferred
• Proven experience in a leadership role within business intelligence or data analytics
• Proficiency with BI tools (Tableau or Looker Studio preferred) and a track record of building visually compelling dashboards that deliver strategic insights to stakeholders
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms, preferably GCP (Google Cloud Platform)
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to listen attentively and present complex data to both technical and non-technical audiences
• Expertise in SQL for data mining and analysis
• Deep knowledge and proven experience in designing, executing, and monitoring data quality processes, especially automated solutions

Nice to have:

• Strong understanding of data modeling, data warehousing, ETL/ELT processes, and the movement of data
• Experience with data transformation tools such as dbt or Dataform (Google Cloud)
• Familiarity with Python, with the ability to read and understand existing code
