About the team:
The Data community at Luno, comprising Data Engineers, Scientists, and Analysts, uncovers valuable insights from the vast amounts of data we gather from our customers and platform. These insights are crucial for guiding our product development and business strategy.
As a Data Scientist joining Luno, you would be part of the Data Science team providing high quality insights and data tools to teams across the company.
Our current technology stack includes Databricks and Looker.
The role in a nutshell:
As we accelerate on our mission to put crypto in everyone’s hands, your role is to use data and insights to drive better business decisions and assist in creating innovative data science products that will create and sustain business value . This will involve collaborating with cross-functional teams to find, size, prioritise, evaluate and iterate on problems and opportunities. It will also involve creating data science products using sophisticated techniques that will be operationalised to fit into existing business workflows.
Your mission will be:
- Partner with cross-functional product and operations teams including Product Managers, Operations Leads and Engineers to provide analytics for data-informed decisions.
- Work with Senior Data Scientists to empower teams with innovative data science tools
- Understand business team’s pain points and create meaningful solutions to equip teams with actionable insights

The ideal Lunaut will have:
- 3+ years of experience in the data field.
- Bachelor's degree or higher in the natural sciences or technical fields such as Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or Economics.
- Demonstrable experience using data science to solve impactful business problems
- Proficient SQL skills and experience with relational databases.
- Experience with data visualisation tools such as Looker, Tableau or similar.
- Proficiency in statistical programming languages. Python and Pyspark would be advantageous.
- Ability to work independently, as well as within and across multi-disciplinary teams.
- Adaptable and capable of working in fast-paced environments.
- Great analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Enthusiasm to work in the crypto industry.
What will really get you noticed:
- At least 3 years of experience working in a similar role.
- A track record of using Pyspark libraries to solve data problems
- Experience working with ML frameworks such as ML Flow, Scikit Learn, Tensorflow etc
- Experience working with Databricks
- Experience working in the Fintech or crypto industry
