Assists Director in creating an outstandingly effective Human Resources system for a world-class hotel.  Responsible for the planning, development, and maintenance of the Human Resources functions for Loews Hotel.  Maintain compliance with all local, state, and federal laws, and company policies and requirements.  Through ongoing employee relations campaigns and employee recruitment and development strategies, ensure staff members of an exemplary, safe, fair, consistent, and fun work environment, thus achieving the goal of valuing employees as assets and resources.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Assists director in ensuring local compliance with all Loews Corporate Human Resources policies and practices
  • Assists director in developing a recruitment strategy and recruiting staff.  Utilize various sources to assist in this process, ensuring affirmative action compliance
  • Assists director in evaluating changes in guest needs, the hotel’s guest mix, and industry and competitive trends to recommend appropriate product/service and operational changes to be made to ensure guest and employee satisfaction and to maintain market dominance and exceptional financial returns
  • Assists director in ensuring employment offers have the necessary approvals and fall within specific company guidelines
  • Assists director in preparing offer letters according to hotel policy or upon request by Executive Committee Members
  • Assists director in maintaining up-to-date staffing guides and ensuring their adherence
  • Assists director with participating in policy making and general operating decisions
  • Assists the director in responding to any labor charges brought against the hotel and representing the hotel in all such hearings
  • Assists the director in overseeing the administration of all workers’ compensation claims and representing the hotel at all hearings. 
  • Assists the director in developing and defining training programs with appropriate individuals.  Perform the training for pertinent subjects associated with HR policies, laws, etc… Train all managers in HR policies and procedures, including the proper usage of all Human Resources forms.  Oversee Hotel Orientation.
  • Assists the director in monitoring discipline, suspension, and termination documentation and procedures
  • Assists the director in developing budgets and work within approved budgetary guidelines for the department
  • Assists the director in directing all Human Resources managers in setting annual personal objectives and PACE Plan goals
  • Assists the director in evaluating the performance of Human Resources employees, determining improvement and training needs and requirements for advancement
  • Assists the director in approving transfers, and promotions
  • Counsel and advise management staff in handling any employee issues
  • Assists the director in developing and maintaining a fair and consistent progressive discipline program, participating as required
  • Assists the director in administering salaries and wages and preparing annual wage surveys 
  • Make suggestions for wage changes as industry trends shift
  • Assists the director in serving as Assistant Chairperson of the Safety Committee, and maintaining all employee injury records
  • Assists the director in implementing and monitoring the hotel’s performance appraisal system
  • Recommend improvements as necessary
  • Assist the director in serving as advisor to the Good Neighbor Council
  • Assists the director in overseeing the development of the employee newsletter
  • Assists the director in planning and coordinating with appropriate staff all employee social events and general meetings
  • Assist the director in developing and implementing employee incentive and recognition programs 
  • Improve them as necessary
  • Assists the director in preparing monthly labor turnover report
  • Assists the director in charting trends and developing solutions, changes, or new recruitment strategies as necessary
  • Monitor/review exit interviews with terminating employees
  • Assist the director in charting trends and developing solutions or changes as necessary
  • Assists the director in maintaining records and retaining all personnel related records according to prescribed local, state, or federal law and company policy
  • Assists the director in overseeing the administration of unemployment insurance tax management, including all responses, appeals, and hearings
  • Assists the director in ensuring a timely response is made to any claim, court issued documentation, or other report requiring Human Resource approval, action, or contribution
  • Assists the director in developing policies and procedures relating to all employee issues.
  • Ensure consistent application of such.
  • Assists the director in overseeing the investigation of any insurance, benefit, or work-related issues management or staff may have
  • Assists the director in writing ad copy and placing all classified advertisements
  • Assists the director in overseeing Human Resources Information Systems
  • Assist the director in ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local laws.  Keep abreast of changes in local, state, and federal laws.
  • Assists the director in initiating and maintaining any required documentation applicable to job specific or related requirements
  • Assists the director with responsibility for training of all direct reports.  Oversee training of indirect reports
  • Assists the director in developing and maintaining excellent working relationship with all staff members
  • Assists the director in developing, maintaining, and expanding upon employee relations programs to ensure an excellent, consistent, and safe working environment
  • Responsible for accurate recording and submittal of department payroll information
  • Other duties as assigned

Supportive Functions and Responsibilities

  • Follows New Hire Training Program and ongoing Star Service Training in accordance with hotel standards
  • Interviews, trains, praises, coaches, counsels, and disciplines according to Loews standards
  • Notifies appropriate individuals of any problems or unusual matters of significance
  • Is polite, friendly, and helpful to guests, management, and employees
  • Promotes and applies teamwork skills at all times
  • Attends all appropriate hotel meetings and training sessions
  • Maintains clean and excellent condition of equipment and work area
  • Executes emergency procedures in accordance with hotel standards
  • Complies with safety regulations and procedures
  • Complies with hotel standards, policies, and rules
  • Remains current on hotel information and changes

Qualifications

  • Full knowledge of applicable state and federal labor laws
  • Excellent communication skills – oral and written
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to interact with all levels of staff effectively
  • Experience with Workers’ Compensation issues and the development of modified work programs
  • Able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays

Education: 

  • B.A. or B.S. in related field or equivalent experience

Experience: 

  • Minimum three years experience as HR Assistant Director or equivalent at a similar quality hotel
