General Description:

The position of Administrative Director, Category Management and Value Analysis is responsible for leading a team that is accountable for contracting medical supplies, equipment, technologies, devices, purchased services and related ancillary services across the health system at the best total value.  This team also serves as a liaison between OU Health clinical service lines leadership, medical staff, nursing, and OU Health’s GPO to ensure cost effective utilization of products, including but not limited to, medical surgical supplies and capital equipment.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that the contract portfolio is effective, efficient, meets the requirements of the hospital, and is optimized between the Group Purchasing Organization (GPO) and local contracts and agreements.
  • Create strategic alliances with suppliers to leverage volume and optimize price and spend.
  • Identifies strategic value creation opportunities and cascades goals throughout the Strategic Sourcing department in order to achieve them.
  • Lead standardization and contract consolidation initiatives for OU Health.
  • Monitor markets to understand changes and product introductions to ensure contract portfolio remains relevant to market conditions.
  • Lead strategic negotiations with suppliers to drive value and cost savings for OU.
  • Work with other Strategic Sourcing leadership to develop team savings and process improvement goals to cascade down to the rest of the Strategic Sourcing team. 
  • Support in the creation and sustainment of standard work to ensure Strategic Sourcing processes are implemented across the team.
  • Work in close partnership with OU Health IT Services leadership in relation to larger strategic needs across OU Health.
  • Develop scorecard schedules with Category Managers to drive tangible improvements with strategic suppliers.
  • Manage a portfolio of systems ranging from highly strategic and business critical, while seeking out improvements to enhance work function.
  • Interview, hire, conduct performance evaluations, train and attend to personnel issues with staff under his/her area of responsibility.
  • Demonstrate the ability within a team assignment to take a lead role in interpreting and applying resolution techniques; management of diversity in the workplace; effective communication and active listening skills, consensus-building and problem resolution practices in order to achieve team goals.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to ensure that supply chain activities are cost effective, create value, and meet customer expectations.
  • Provide leadership to develop and mature Value Analysis process.
  • Ensure an adequate pipeline of Value Analysis initiatives to achieve the system’s cost reduction targets while maintaining or improving the quality of care delivered across the health system.
  • Deliver cost savings and value maximization to the total cost of ownership of equipment, supplies and services while fulfilling the mission of the organization
  • Consult and collaborate with other OU Health administrators and managers to coordinate and implement interdepartmental operating procedures which improve procurement cycle activities.
  • Maintain metrics, reports, process documentation, customer service logs, or training or safety records.
  • Lead, direct and motivate diverse workers within a team-based assignment; effectively manage change in the workplace.
  • Ensure Value Analysis Teams are driving towards cost savings, patient safety, and quality goals, and effectively working with clinicians to bring in new supplies and equipment that provide value for OU Health.
  • Represent organization at national level by attending and speaking at appropriate conferences and networking with other leaders in the field

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree required.  Technical or Business-related Bachelor’s degree field preferred. Master’s degree preferred.

Experience: 5 to 7 years of progressive leadership experience required, including at least 2 or more years in supply chain management or supply chain project management role required. Prefer 4 or more years of experience in Supply Chain.

License(s)/Certification(s)/Registration(s) Required:  None required.  Certified Materials & Resource Professional (CMRP) through American Hospital Association preferred.  Lean/Six Sigma or similar process improvement program is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience using metrics to drive decisions and working with external vendors.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of Supply Chain functional area.

  • Ability to foster vendor relationships that will drive toward a successful partnership
  • Proven skills in communicating with all levels of organizational leadership
  • Strong leadership, facilitation, interpersonal, and communication skills with the ability to lead successful teams of individuals, motivate project participants, and communicate effectively at all levels across the system.
  • Able to rapidly summarize information and present to others.
  • Proficient with the use of Microsoft Office tools and Supply Chain analytics.
