Business Insider is looking for a full-time tech correspondent to get scoops and report on what it’s really like working inside some of Tech’s biggest companies.

This tech correspondent will be excited to break stories on the most talked-about trends in workplace culture, leadership decisions, and the behind-the-scenes dynamics in big tech companies. This person should be highly motivated to spark conversation and even industry change by writing a mix of scoops, features with surprising angles, and exclusive insights.

Our most loyal audience -- the ambitious, disruptive, business-obsessed readers -- want the inside scoop on what's happening across the tech industry’s biggest companies. The ideal candidate has a knack for breaking into companies across the spectrum of the tech industry. They should already be deeply sourced and have considerable experience in what it takes to turn tips into scoops and other original stories. 

This is a position for a seasoned journalist who is confident they can produce groundbreaking stories regularly. Access to inside sources at major tech companies is a must, along with the ability to obtain or review internal documents. 

Here are some of the kinds of stories this person would work on:

The position is based out of the Bay Area. This role is union-eligible.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Pitch and write original stories about major tech companies such as Google, Meta, OpenAI and more.
  • Get exclusive scoops that make Business Insider a must-read destination.
  • Give readers an up-close look at life in Silicon Valley workplaces, from the office to the pub.
  • Make those who read BI and those who work in tech feel that they must come to BI regularly to get the real story on what’s happening inside the industry.
  • Attend source meetings, tech industry events, earnings calls, and press briefings to stay informed on corporate developments.
  • Ensure accuracy, balance, and fairness in all reporting while maintaining high journalistic standards.

The Ideal Candidate Has:

  • A proven track record of exclusive stories that shed light on the realities of working in Big Tech
  • Exceptional writing ability featuring quick, accurate, and conversational copy.
  • Experience working with confidential sources and whistleblowers.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple stories, and meet tight deadlines.

Salary & Benefits:

  • Salary: $120,000 - $160,000 (dependent on skills, experience, and competencies)
