About the role:

This internship supports a strategic initiative to automate identification of electrical safety non‑conformities and generate standards‑based remediation guidance using photos and documents. The intern will contribute to dataset preparation, AI/ML model development, LLM‑based reasoning workflows, and system validation aligned with BNBC, NFPA/IEC, and internal Kontoor electrical safety standards.

The role is project‑based and designed for a technically capable, detail‑oriented student with strong interest in electrical safety, artificial intelligence, and applied compliance automation.

Job Duties:

Electrical Standards Interpretation

• Review BNBC, NFPA, IEC, and internal Kontoor electrical safety standards.
• Extract and map clauses observable electrical conditions and hazards.
• Convert requirements into structured, machine‑readable rules and guidance.

Dataset Collection & Preparation

• Collect electrical photos, audit findings, and remediation evidence from SharePoint.
• Clean, organize, and classify evidence into a standardized training dataset.
• Support image annotation and document labeling for ML models.

LLM & AI Workflow Support

• Assist in developing an agentic LLM workflow for standards‑based guidance generation.
• Help structure prompts, reasoning templates, and reference mappings.
• Review AI outputs and flag gaps or incorrect interpretations.

Multimodal ML Model Support

• Support development and testing of computer vision models (YOLOv8 / Faster R‑CNN).
• Assist with text models (BERT / T5) for audit and remediation document analysis.
• Validate detected non‑conformities against standards.

Testing, Validation & Documentation

• Compare AI‑generated findings with manual reviewer assessments.
• Document accuracy results, lessons learned, and improvement opportunities.
• Support stakeholder reviews and feedback incorporation.

Skills for Success:

• Ability to read and interpret technical safety standards.
• Strong attention to detail and documentation skills.
• Basic understanding of AI/ML concepts or strong willingness to learn.
• Familiarity with Python and data handling.
• Exposure to computer vision or NLP concepts.
• Experience with annotation tools (e.g., CVAT, Labeling, Rob flow).
• Understanding of electrical systems and common safety risks.

ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree (running or completed) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
