Job Description Summary:

The Senior Surgical Technologist and/or the Certified Senior Surgical Technologist prepares the room and gathers supplies needed for surgical procedures; delivers instruments and supplies to the surgeon and other members of the surgical team intra operatively; may function as second assistant to the surgeon; assists in the proper decontamination of the room, supplies and instruments post operatively.

Surgical Tech in this role is required to work one of their weekend shifts on Sunday night each week.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate's DegreeBLS - Basic Life Support - American Heart Association

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience

  • 2 years in an OhioHealth hospital, required/or 10 years experience in a main hospital operating room

  • Graduated from an accredited (CAAHEP) surgical technologist school or equivalent military training or 10+ years’ experience as a Surgery Technician.

  • Must work in a Labor and Delivery Unit at a trauma center or a Main IP OR with staffed weekend and holiday, nights and 24/7 on-call required

  • Associate degree in Surgical Technology

  • BLS

  • CST certification preferred

  • Must demonstrate basic critical thinking skills on their introductory team

  • Will perform primary role independently

  • Will demonstrate the ability to anticipate surgeon needs and communicates these with staff

  • Will identify actual or potential emergency situations and intervene safely with assistance and/or supervision

  • Will precept at least 5 orientees and students annually

  • Complete basic skills and competencies in 4-6 service lines as delineated in the Surgery Skill Competency Checklist

  • Independently scrub assigned service line specialty and 2 additional off-specialty service (basin and complex level cases) at least 1 of the 2 must be in complex CV, Neurosurgery (cranial) or Soft Tissue Robotics

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE

Graduate of an accredited surgical technologist school or equivalent military training, 10+ years’ experience as a Surgical Tech. Understanding of procedure performed. Anticipate surgeon’s needs. Have necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care. Monitor sterile field. Provide aid in exposure, hemostasis, and other technical functions. BLS and strong clinical knowledge of OR environment.
