Position Summary
This position performs follow-up on insurance billing and collection activities, verifying the accuracy and completeness of insurance records, and claims, contacting insurance companies as well as other related duties to expedite payments from various payers for physician services.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Performs collection follow-up duties for third-party payers to ensure timely and accurate payment of physician charges.
- Reviews patient accounts and verify the accuracy of information including insurance, eligibility, invoice resolution, correspondence, and remittances for denials, requests for additional information, or other appropriate handling.
- Utilizes Epic, system tools, and payer websites for claim submission, claim status, attachments, eligibility, and authorization/referral inquiry.
- Consistently works transfers from other WUSM Accounts Receivable Departments that appear in assigned Epic work queues for prompt resolution.
- Consistently meets the Quality Assurance (QA) standard as established within the department.
- Consistently meets the productivity and efficiency standards of working a set amount of invoices a day and follows best practices for one-touch resolution as established within the department.
- Interacts with management and staff members including clinical departments to discuss issues.
- Assists with special projects and other duties as assigned by the supervisor and/or manager.
Working Conditions
The position works remotely, working in the office one day per month.
Preferred Qualifications
Working knowledge of computers, general office equipment, telephone console, medical terminology, collection techniques and communication skills that involve dealing with confidential information.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent high school certification.
- Two to three years of related experience in bookkeeping/accounting and/or medical collection setting.

Salary Range
$17.34 - $25.40 / Hourly
The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
