Summary:  The compliance testing/monitoring programs are a critical component of an effective Compliance Management System.  This position is responsible for organizing, planning, and conducting various reviews and/or testing/monitoring any applicable components of the Bank’s regulatory risk inventory.  The position parallels the senior internal auditor position from a second line of defense compliance testing perspective. These reviews include BSA, loan, servicing, and deposit compliance related functions of the Bank.  This team member will measure compliance with laws and regulations by completing testing, assessing internal controls, operations, and reviewing policies and procedures to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations and our corporate compliance program.  A suitable candidate will also have an understanding of advanced audit skills, the structure of an effective risk assessment, and the skills to prepare and deliver a complex written report to executive management.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities include the following.

  • Understands and adheres to a comprehensive risk based compliance testing/monitoring program in coordination with the Compliance Risk Testing Director.
  • Independently conducts compliance testing/monitoring audits of the company addressing the Bank’s inventory of risks and regulations.
  • Collaborates with Compliance Department personnel to assist in designing, executing and documenting transaction test plans for Financial Crimes Risk Management, deposit, lending, and all other compliance requirements.
  • Develops compliance audit and review plans to ensure risks identified are adequately addressed by procedures performed.
  • Interprets legislation, policy and procedures to conduct comprehensive compliance reviews to ensure submissions are complete, accurate and in compliance with various banking rules and reporting requirements.
  • Examines supporting documentation and other information submitted in conjunction with compliance reviews to determine validity of information contained in compliance disclosure report filings.
  • Creates and maintains databases and leads data analysis; synthesizes and documents data and business requirements to support the delivery of risk-based compliance reviews and the compliance testing program.
  • Prepares written draft and final compliance testing reports for the Chief Compliance Officer, Compliance Risk Testing Director, Origin Bank Board of Directors, and the supervising regulatory authority.
  • Identifies red flags or compliance concerns and recommends corrective revisions or remedial actions to correct non-compliance, including escalating unresolved/non-compliant cases to management.
  • Monitors Management's corrective actions to ensure risks are mitigated effectively, which includes follow-up audit procedures to evaluate the adequacy of the corrective action taken to improve deficient conditions.
  • Assists with regulatory examinations, independent compliance audits, and second line Compliance Testing engagements, which includes the coordination, fulfillment of, and management of all regulatory requests and examinations with bank regulators and internal/external auditors.
  • Maintains thorough documentation of all steps taken during the review process.  Thoroughly documents findings by preparing reports in a manner that is clear and comprehensible to Compliance Risk Management Team managers, internal auditors and regulatory examiners.
  • Reads, analyzes and interprets financial reports, legal documents, governmental regulations and professional publications.
  • Collaborates with Compliance personnel to make independent determinations regarding the Bank’s and Compliance Department’s adherence with regulatory expectations.
  • Supports and contributes to the continuous improvement of compliance testing methodologies, framework, approach and related practices.
  • Responds to, and analyzes, all inquiries from within the business and operational departments.
  • Communicates effectively with peers, front-line and management when requesting information or documentation and addressing concerns or findings.
  • Adheres to Bank policy, procedure and regulatory requirements.
  • Adheres to all designated time periods, manages workflow to the specified deadlines, and completes responsibilities in a satisfactory manner.
  • Maintains a strict level of confidentiality.
  • Completes all job-related training in a timely manner and attends seminars or continuing education, as directed.
  • Performs any other assignments as directed by Manager.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an advanced knowledge and understanding of banking and lending related laws and regulations, based on prior experience, is required.  Incumbent must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience                                                     

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required; Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university preferred; minimum five (5) years in banking or equivalent combination of banking and/or banking audit experience.  Prior retail banking and/or lending experience required. A certification such as Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (“CRCM”), Certified Anti Money Laundering Specialist (“CAMS”), Certified Community Bank Compliance Officer (“CCBCO”), and/or Certified Enterprise Risk Professional (“CERP”) preferred.  Similarly, certificates from the American Bankers Association (“ABA”) such as Lending Compliance Core Concepts, Mortgage Lending Compliance, Deposit Compliance, and/or Compliance Essentials also preferred. Prior experience with case management systems, databases, and similar automation preferred. 

Computer Skills                                                               

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point.  Ability to learn bank-specific software such as IBS, AccuSystems, nCino, Encompass or comparable software.  Ability to use basic office machines.

Physical Demands  

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus.

Salary

This position requires both individual and collaborative effort and aptitude, as well as the attitude to learn and analyze regulatory requirements to complete testing at a Consumer Financial Protection Board required level. The existing Compliance Risk Testing Specialist position is assigned to a salary grade without geographic differentials, which slightly increases or decreases the range based on the market. Actual base salaries vary based on skills, experience, and geographical location. 

Work Location

The work location is flexible so we can ideally recruit candidates from all of Origin Bank’s principal markets. As such, the position includes the ability to work remotely because it is not customer facing.
