Leidos is seeking an Internal Communications intern with foundational software development knowledge to support technical communications, stakeholder engagement, and internal/external messaging efforts. This role bridges the gap between technical teams and non-technical stakeholders by translating complex software and engineering concepts into clear, concise, and compelling communications. This position is full-time, onsite in Reston, VA for 3 months.
The ideal candidate is pursuing a degree in Communications, Technical Writing, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field and possesses both strong writing skills and a working understanding of software development concepts.

Key Responsibilities
Translate technical software and system information into clear written and visual communications
Support development of internal communications, technical briefs, white papers, presentations, and executive summaries
Collaborate with software engineers and program teams to gather technical information
Develop visual aids such as infographics, workflow diagrams, and slide decks
Assist in maintaining internal knowledge repositories and documentation platforms
Support social media or digital communications related to technical initiatives
Ensure consistency of messaging and alignment with organizational branding standards
Lead development of internal plan focused on building SW developer community, including events, engagements, speaking opportunities, etc.
Required Qualifications
Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Communications, Technical Writing, Journalism, Public Relations, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Basic understanding of software development concepts (e.g., SDLC, Agile, APIs, cloud computing, cybersecurity principles, AI coding)
Familiarity with at least one programming language (e.g., Python, Java, C++, JavaScript) at the project level
Ability to translate technical concepts into language appropriate for diverse audiences
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
US Citizenship is required
Preferred Qualifications
Experience writing technical documentation or user guides
Exposure to Agile development environments
Experience with content management systems or collaboration tools (e.g., Confluence, SharePoint)
Basic knowledge of graphic design or visual communication tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite)
