Job Description

The Alkimos Desalinisation project is about to commence its tunnelling operations, and we are looking for Shift Engineers. If you are Engineer with experience in civil or mechanical engineering and are interested in developing your tunnelling skills, the Alkimos project wants to hear from you.

Operations will begin from the beginning of next year and will be running through to the end of 2026. We will be constructing two 4m diameter tunnels, one being 2.6km and the other 4.1km in length under the ocean using slurry TBM’s. The scope also includes the marine inlet and outfall connections.  

Responsibilities

In additional to your usual Site Engineer duties, the TBM Shift Engineer will be:

  • Responsible for monitoring grout pressures, quantities, flow rates, and sodium levels during the regrip process, while also adjusting regrip speed and pressures as needed.
  • With the usage of inputting data within VMT, completing tailskin measurements
  • Appropriately select ring orientations through completing tailskin measurements, analysing VMT data and considering build parameters, cylinder extensions, tailskin clearances, and tunnel alignment.
  • Track ring numbers and quality of ring orientations and tailskin clearance. Analyse and identify patterns and trends of defects.
  • Scan segments into quality tracking programs and monitor tailskin grease quantities after regrip. Complete quality testing on grout operations.
  • Through checklists and shift reports monitor TBM advance parameters for ground conditions and changes against the Permit to Tunnel.
  • Coordinating with operators for jigger moves, service extensions, consumable tracking and procurement, gas monitoring, and SIR testing.
  • Monitoring the frequency of downtimes, track breakdown causes and outline them accurately in shift reports and monitoring ring-build cycles.
  • Monitoring and completing audits on TBM logistics including the operations in place to feed the TBM excavation advancements. 
  • Generally conduct safety, procurement and commercial reviews of all suppliers and sub-contractors and implementing continuous improvement of all tunnel plant and equipment.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • A degree in Engineering, Civil or Mining.
  • Good communication skills
