We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Performance Engineer to enhance our technology capabilities and drive innovation in Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) and Internet of Things (IoT) solutions. In this role, you will ensure the performance, scalability, and reliability of Itron’s next-generation Advanced Metering Platform—an essential component of our smart grid and IoT ecosystem. Your work will directly impact millions of connected devices across customer deployments, shaping the future of smart infrastructure.

You will collaborate in a modern development environment using a modern technology stack, including Oracle, Splunk, Java JVM, Linux, ELK, Azure, AWS, and more. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to solutions that create a more resourceful world.

Job Responsibilities

  • Review requirements, specifications, defect, and design documents to provide timely and meaningful feedback

  • Provide constructive feedback on performance and scalability design

  • Produce acceptance criteria where not enough details have been provided in specifications

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with developers on high‑level design discussions

  • Create detailed, comprehensive and well-structured test plans and test cases

  • Organize and update existing performance plans to maintain test structures and avoid duplication

  • Develop and maintain automated test scripts used in performance monitoring

  • Test software products using performance tools to ensure current sizing (memory, CPU, IOPS) can be maintained and improved in SaaS and Cloud environments

  • Execute experimental scale scenarios using different product settings (threads, queue sizes, consumers, producers) to identify optimal values

  • Identify performance issues in software products, such as processing bottlenecks, overuse of threads, memory leaks, and poorly optimized SQL statements

  • Use technical knowledge to root cause performance issue (using database reports, logging/Splunk, performance metrics, configuration review, etc) that can span across multiple products in a complex enterprise environment

  • Work closely with development teams to identify, monitor, fix, and test performance issues

A qualified candidate can demonstrate

  • 5+ years of extensive experience in working with large, multi-component software products

  • A proactive approach to ensuring performance, scalability, and quality

  • Process-oriented, analytical, and comfortable collaborating to solve complex problems

  • Experience using data gathering and troubleshooting tools, such as Splunk or ELK

  • Understanding of application performance inputs, such garbage collection, GC logs, and tuning concepts

  • Experience with web services (REST, SOAP, etc) and ability to script for scaled testing

  • Ability to discuss technical performance and scalability concepts with development teams

  • Ability to work in a Linux environment

  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to collaborate across diverse, cross‑functional teams

Nice to have

  • Experience with APM products, such as AppDynamics, DataDog, Elastic

  • Working knowledge of containerization software products, such as Docker and Kubernetes

  • Previous testing experience, creating test plans and test cases

  • Experience with application cloud deployment and configuration (Azure, AWS, or GCP)

  • Understanding of Java performance concepts such as garbage collection and JVM arguments
