OES Equipment, part of the DPR Family of Companies, is a fast-paced construction supply/materials and rental equipment company serving some of the largest and most technical construction projects within the United States. We are seeking an experienced Estimator - Mega Projects who will focus on large-scale, high-profile projects with early-stage comprehensive preconstruction and project planning related to all equipment rental and support services needed on the job.
This role operates at the forefront of major projects, working through complex scenarios while managing multiple bid packages and projects simultaneously. The Estimator – Mega Projects will need to be detail-oriented, data driven, and customer focused, with a strong communication skills and customer service mindset.
Role Overview
The Estimator will own jobsite specific early conceptual pricing through tabulation and recommendation of vendor/partner. They will be responsible for:
Early-stage jobsite logistics and procurement estimating.
Vendor and supplier alignment.
Lead bid solicitation, review, and tabulation.
Award recommendations, buy in, and initial partner turnovers for jobsite starts.
Consult and participate in client/supplier relationships with OES sourcing team.
Act as the customer advocate for onsite partners selection.
Collaborate closely with internal teams, customers, and suppliers to develop complete cost evaluations and innovative solutions that support our customers utilizing the Mega Projects line of services.
Duties and Responsibilities
Estimating and Cost Management
Oversee projects from initial estimates through finalization of supplier agreements and Notice of Award.
Develop conceptual cost estimates and cost studies from schematic, feasibility, or incomplete documentation.
Prepare detailed estimates as design evolves; produce variance summaries and support value engineering efforts.
Evaluate project information critically, ask clarifying questions, and provide complete project cost assessments.
Make reliable cost predictions across a wide range of scopes, materials, and job site services.
Assemble presentation-ready estimate packages that clearly communicate project cost, assumptions and options.
Bidding & Procurement
Prepare detailed instructions for bidders, supplier-specific clarifications, and comprehensive bid packages.
Lead the bidding process: solicit bids, manage bidder communications, and respond to RFI’s.
Evaluate proposals using bid tally sheets and structured comparisons to ensure scope completeness and best value.
Develop and present award recommendations to customers/owners based on cost, schedule, and value.
Finalize agreements with suppliers and subcontractors in alignment with project and customer requirements.
Data Analysis
Apply strong data analysis skills to evaluate pricing, trends, and supplier performance.
Use bid estimating software to build and maintain pricing databases, tracking tools, and reports.
Continuously refine estimating tools, unit costs, and logistics strategies based on project outcomes and market conditions.
Collaborate with project teams (internal and external) to understand requirements and align scope, schedule, and budget.
Prepare and present cost/budget information to customers and project stakeholders.
Participate in and lead RFP responses, proposal development, and formal client presentations.
Required Skills and Abilities
Strong understanding of data analysis coupled with a sales/customer service mindset.
Working knowledge of equipment rental, construction supplies/materials, and jobsite services including toilets, trailers, dumpsters, fence, fuel, tents and construction water.
Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
Effective participation in team environment, with both external and internal teammates.
Creative and innovative approaches and solutions on a project-by-project basis.
Ability to identify, adapt to, and resolve complex issues. Makes sound decisions in a timely manner based on a mixture of analysis, wisdom, experience, input, and judgement.
A strong work ethic and a “can-do” attitude.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Procurement, or related construction field experience.
3+ years of experience in preconstruction, estimating, or project planning, preferably in equipment rentals, supplies and consumables/materials, or other related jobsite support services.
Proficiency in estimating software, project management tools, and Microsoft Office Suite and Building Connected.
Physical Requirements
15% - 25% travel for site inspections and project installations.
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
