The Oregon Military Department is a state agency that supports the Oregon National Guard. You are NOT required to be a member of the Oregon National Guard to apply for this position.
The Oregon Military Department is recruiting for an Information Systems Specialist 4 (ISS4) Desktop Support Specialist. This is a full-time LIMITED DURATION state position located in Salem/Keizer, Oregon. This position is being filled for workload only and funding is expected through September 30th, 2027.
This position is represented by the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees’ (AFSCME) union.

What You Will be Doing
The primary purpose of this position is to provide desktop administration and technical support to Distributed Learning Program Classroom computers and users. This position will provide customer assistance and day to day operations around desktop administration and support. This position will monitor networks, systems, and services for availability, and work under the guidance of senior technicians, the Distributed Learning Program Administrator, and the G6 (ORARNG IT). The position will support ORARNG soldiers, staff, and other users of the Distributed Learning Program’s classrooms and resources operating on the army network at multiple OMD facilities.
Working Conditions
Working Conditions: Interacts daily with local staff, state agencies, ORARNG soldiers, G6, and the public. This position will require driving to many locations across Oregon on a regular basis, at times it will be indoors and involves sitting at a desk to help customers via phone and computer communications. Will require regular in-state travel to attend meetings, training, and perform computer and network deployments. May require lifting of personal computers, peripherals, and other equipment; frequent bending, stooping, crawling, and reaching under desks, occasional overhead work on a step ladder. Compliance with all safety guidelines is required at all times; wearing of hearing and eye protection is necessary when exposed to areas requiring their use. Essential job duties must be performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
This position may have a hybrid work schedule after initial training coordinated with the position manager.
What You Need to Qualify
Three (3) years of information systems experience in:
Computer, networking, or communications systems and technical support.
***OR***
An Associate's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, OR completion of a two (2) year accredited vocational training program in information technology or related field.
-AND-
One (1) year of information systems experience in:
Computer networking, or communications systems and technical support.

Experience providing professional technical support in a business environment.
Strong knowledge of windows operating systems.
Strong knowledge of mobile operating systems.
Proven customer service skills and experience.
Possesses certificate(s) in formal IT education.
Must demonstrate ethical standards, initiative, and independent judgment on an on-going basis.
Conditions of Employment
The incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a valid DoD Confidential Security Clearance (T3). Duties and responsibilities include unescorted access to restricted areas that may contain classified equipment or materials up to secret level.
This position requires a Criminal Background Check and Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) clearance. Fingerprints will be required.
Employee is required to maintain a drug/alcohol free workplace in accordance with OMD Drug/Alcohol CPM’s, Policies, and the Statewide Drug Free Workplace Policy 50-000-01.
