Job Summary

The Immunohistochemistry (IHC) Specialist performs immunohistochemistry tissue staining, evaluates and implements new IHC instrumentation, workup and implementation of new antibodies. Establishes, monitors, and reviews quality control parameters in compliance to regulatory and accrediting requirements. Maintains current knowledge of individual antibodies, their diagnostic properties and the use of appropriate control tissue. Maintains adequate tissue bank supply for IHC tissue controls as needed. Is able to identify and troubleshoot erroneous IHC staining reactions and instrument malfunction, knowing when to escalate. Maintains a working knowledge of departmental and standard operating procedures, participates in review, revision and development of IHC policies and procedures. Participates in the development and completion of competency testing in IHC for assigned staff. Accepts responsibility to act as a resource for technical questions or complaints regarding IHC. Performs routine preparation of surgical, cytological, and autopsy sections for microscopic examination by the Pathologist, performs other duties as assigned, and maintains a clean and safe work environment to ensure efficient workflow and compliance with all regulatory requirements.

Pay Range

Minimum $36.87 Midpoint $48.86 Maximum $60.84

Rate of pay is determined by various factors, including but not limited to knowledge, skills, competencies, experience, education, as well as position requirements.

Experience

* Required: Minimum three (3) years of experience as a Histology Technician with experience in immunohistochemistry implementation and troubleshooting as well as processing, embedding and sectioning of fixed specimens.

* Preferred: Five (5) or more years of experience as a Histology Technician with experience in immunohistochemistry implementation and troubleshooting as well as processing, embedding and sectioning of fixed specimens.

Education

* Required: Bachelor of Science with classes in biology and chemistry.

Training

* Required: None required.

Licensure

* Required: ASCP Certified Histotechnologist.

Work Environments - Functional Demand:

Medium - High energy level Lift and carry 40-50 lbs. Push/pull +/- 150-200 lbs. (Patients on bed, stretcher) Lateral transfer 150-200 lbs. (ie. Patient) .
