Code for America is looking for a talented Recruiter, where you’ll be an ambassador of our mission, will create an exceptional candidate experience, and will help us build strong and diverse teams that drive innovation and positive impact.

In this role, your work will directly impact the growth and success of our organization by attracting and hiring talented individuals who align with our mission and values.


About the Role: 

As a Recruiter, you will be the first point of contact for candidates, ensuring a seamless experience from outreach to offer. You’ll leverage your sourcing skills to build high-quality diverse talent pipelines across technical and non-technical roles, and will collaborate with hiring managers to meet hiring goals while fostering a positive internal stakeholder experience. 

As an ambassador for Code for America, you’ll champion our mission and values, along with our diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, in all hiring processes. You’ll also contribute to recruiting projects, you’ll document your work, and will provide hiring recommendations to improve the organization’s overall recruitment practice.

This role will report to the Associate Director of Recruiting and is expected to travel no more than 10% of the time.

In this Position You Will:

  • Full-cycle Recruiting:
    • Manage the complete recruiting process from job definition to onboarding including: interview content and job description creation; passive sourcing, screening & interviewing, coordinating & managing interviews; candidate evaluations; and facilitating the decision-making process
    • Drive and execute the offer process, partnering with hiring managers and People Operations;
    • Initiate the onboarding process for new hires, ensuring a smooth handoff between Recruiting and People Operations;
    • Work closely with hiring managers to strategize and meet hiring needs, centering diversity, equity, and inclusion goals throughout the process;
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with diverse talent pools, engaging with both active and passive candidates;
    • Utilize various sourcing channels, such as job boards, social media, and professional networks to identify qualified candidates;
    • Ensure a positive, seamless candidate experience by maintaining proactive communication and aligning with our mission and values;
  • Operations & Administration:
    • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, as well as company policies;
    • Collaborate on and contribute to a variety of Recruiting OKRs and projects;
    • Partner with senior team members to maintain and analyze data, developing strategy and hiring recommendations;
    • Contribute to recruitment process improvement by creating and upkeeping recruiting related documentation;
    • Be an administrator for the team’s Applicant Tracking System, ensuring each role is appropriately set up and that all stakeholders have necessary access needed to successfully participate in the hiring process.
  • Code for America Brand Representation:
    • Represent Code for America at events including job fairs and industry conferences (virtual and in person)
  • Other duties as assigned

About You:

This role is a perfect fit for you if you have experience building high-quality pipelines for senior-level product and technical roles, you excel at partnering with internal stakeholders, and you thrive in a fast-paced, autonomous environment.

  • 3+ years of full cycle recruiting experience or other relevant experience; 
  • 2+ years of senior level technical sourcing experience (i.e. engineering, data science, product roles);
  • 1+ years of recruiting coordinator or recruiting operations experience; 
  • Proficient in ATS management and recruitment tools;
  • Strong partnership building with stakeholders: you have the ability to act as an effective hiring partner with Hiring Managers, other Recruiters, and Senior Leadership;
  • An active and data-driven approach: you excel at making sense of data trends and using the insights to increase effectiveness and efficiency;
  • Prioritization for candidate experience: you have a proven track record of successfully supporting candidates from application to offer;
  • Excellent risk management: you have a proven track record of independent problem solving and can identify and elevate risks, inconsistencies, and opportunities, appropriately and effectively;
  • Highly detail oriented: you have a keen eye for precision and can quickly spot and correct errors or inconsistencies;
  • Excellent organization and time management skills: you have the ability to thrive in fast paced environments, support multiple projects at once, and proactively communicate;
  • A growth mindset and proven flexibility: you can successfully shift tasks and priorities when circumstances change;
  • High level of integrity: ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality;
  • Interest in and alignment with working in a mission-driven organization.

It’s a Bonus if You Have: 

  • Personal experience with the social safety net, or other mission-relevant government services;
  • Greenhouse ATS experience;
  • G-suite experience;
  • Agency recruiting experience;
  • High volume in-house recruiting experience;
  • High-growth or hyper-growth startup experience.


What You’ll Get

Salary: 

Code for America’s salary bands are transparent as a part of our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. We are happy to extend this transparency in the recruitment process. As part of our equitable hiring practices, we aim to target the midpoint of the 2nd quartile of the range for all new hires.

Offer targets vary based on market / geographic location. The offer targets for this role range from $79,411 to $97,213, annually.

    • Employees with 3+ years are eligible for an additional 50% employer contribution over 3%, to a maximum of 5%

    • Full benefits package with options up to 100% coverage toward select medical, dental, and vision plans
    • Employer contributes up to 80% of the cost towards dependent and family coverage
  • Remote Work:
    • Code for America employees may work remotely across the US
    • Code for America employees main residence must be within the US
    • Full-time employees work 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday
    • Collaborative working hours: we aim to hold all internal meetings between 10 AM - 3 PM PT. We expect all Code for America staff to be available during these set working hours
  • Time Off: 
    • Open personal time off, a minimum of 16 paid holidays, and an org-wide closure from Christmas Day through New Year's Day
    • Paid sick time; up to 96 hours annually
    • Competitive paid parental and family leave
    • 4 weeks of paid sabbatical after 4 years of service, with an option of up to 4 additional weeks of unpaid time away
