The opportunity:
Markel Specialty, where this job role lies, is an insurance division of Markel Corporation. We offer diversified products from small businesses and personal lines to casualty, property, and professional lines. We operate through six geographic regions across all 50 states in America along with international operations in Bermuda, Dublin and London (where this job role is based).
The Claims department seek to be market-leaders in the provision of an efficient, cost-effective and professional service to our brokers and clients. The claims team works with the underwriting team to facilitate close communication and the exchange of ideas, and is an integral part of the product and customer service delivered to our clients. Our vision is to be the most customer focused, agile and value adding claims team in the market. We strive to be pro-active and flexible in the management of claims whilst maintaining our integrity. Through the changing market and in order to continuously evolve and strive to meet these goals, Markel Specialty has created a dedicated London/Dublin claims team to handle all casualty and professional lines claims written out of London and Dublin.
What you’ll be doing:
Complete assigned daily claims support activities timely and accurately (whether as primary or backup role) according to Markel best practices. This includes activities such as:
Triaging claims to correct handlers;
Providing acknowledgment letters to brokers;
Making indemnity payments;
Setting up expense payments;
Liaising with underwriters to provide details of losses on accounts;
Requesting updates on inactive files from brokers.
Understand our departmental service standards and guidelines, systems, workflows, reports, forms, products, and other information needed to complete work assignments.
Understand the implications of the business environment including processes and technology to provide analysis and advice in the area of expertise. Influence decisions on workflow and service standards within the team to achieve the goals of Markel.
Identify and communicate process enhancement opportunities that allow for service improvements and/or increasing efficiencies.
Our must-haves:
A passion for claims. Some Insurance would be ideal, but candidates who are starting their career in claims are encouraged to apply.
Be educated to a minimum of A-Level standard or equivalent
Demonstrate strong written and spoken communication skills
Have good IT (Microsoft Office) skills, including Word, Excel, Access and Outlook and ability to use or learn our in-house systems
Team player with strong independent organisational skills
Be a self-starter with a positive and proactive attitude
Be internally and externally customer focused, in particular to understand the importance of the quality, clarity and speed of service delivery.
