This position will support the NASA EVA and Human Surface Mobility Program’s (EHP) System Engineering and Integration (SEI) Requirements, Interfaces and Verification (R)IV) team – part of the Artemis portfolio at the NASA Johnson Space Center. On this team, you will provide requirement verification and validation leadership and support. 

Work Model 

This is a full-time position based at Johnson Space Center in Houston TX, offering a hybrid work model that combines 3-5 regular onsite workdays and remote flexibility as the business needs allow. 

What You’ll Be Doing  

  • Support the EHP SEI RIV team at NASA Johnson Space Center, which is responsible for the definition and development of requirements, interfaces and verification processes and products 
  • Support the Program’s Verification and Validation Lead in the following tasks: 
  • Attend project or program meetings and reviews to keep SE&I team informed of developments 
  • Develop, manage, and update program level requirements and interface documents 
  • Create, review, and disposition verification, validation, and certifications plans. Coordinate all aspects with appropriate stakeholders and subject matter experts 
  • Conduct CRs (external documents routed to EHP SEI for review/comment) related to EHP system technical baseline documents 
  • Assist with program lifecycle reviews (generated slide content, present as needed) 

What You Need to be Successful – Project Engineer- Systems Engineering

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, science, or another related STEM discipline   
  • At least 8 years of increasingly responsible professional engineering/scientific experience, including experience in systems engineering, technical interfaces, and NASA program management environment  
  • Experience working as part of a team developing and updating verification and validation processes
  • Experience in working with verification software tools that show verification traceability of requirements  
  • Proven experience with completing projects through to the end of the project life cycle including showing compliance to all requirements 
  • Collaborate with other team members responsible for requirements and interfaces that are related to verification and validation in addition to working with stakeholders from other programs/projects 
  • Have excellent communication and coordination skills in working with others and presenting in front of boards 
  • Demonstrated experience integrating multiple teams and complex systems  
  • Knowledge and understanding of the NASA program life cycle and associated milestone reviews  
  • Working experience in Configuration Management Workflow (CMW), SharePoint, and wiki pages  
  • Ability to work in a quick-paced, small core team that leads technical discussions across a large technical community and influences teams across the NASA enterprise  
  • Initiative and demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers  
  • Excellent teaming and leadership skills with an ability to multi-task across various issues/disciplines simultaneously   
  • Knowledge of space flight certification processes to ensure performance and safety requirements are met  
  • Willing to travel if needed, approx. 5-10% 
  • This position may require the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.

In addition to the above, the minimum requirements for the Senior Project Engineer- Systems Engineering include: 

  • Experience leading or organizing technical efforts or project teams 
  • More than 12 years of increasingly responsible professional engineering/scientific experience, including experience in systems engineering, technical interfaces, NASA program lifecycle, and NASA program management environment  

How You Can Stand Out  

It would be impressive if you have one or more of these: 

  • Advanced degree in engineering, science, or another related STEM discipline   
  • Knowledge of EVA systems, exploration of mobility topics and current technology   
  • Demonstrated successful experience performing or leading technical and programmatic tasks for NASA , including analysis cycle tasks   
  • Experience with Human Spaceflight testing, evaluations, and/or operations. 
  • Experience with requirements development of NASA spacecraft systems 
  • Proven ability to interact effectively with government and contractor personnel   
  • Experience with International Partner and/or Commercial vendor integration and coordination
