Job Summary:

The Biomedical Equipment Technician III (BMET3) provides clinical equipment services under minimal supervision of management. Duties include but are not limited to: Perform calibrations and repairs on equipment as assigned. Demonstrate knowledge of safe and approved troubleshooting techniques on medical devices. Read schematics and service manuals, consult with vendors and service representatives to assist in troubleshooting. Utilizes test equipment and complete complex repairs in a time and cost-effective manner with patient safety as the primary focus. Document work performed and any significant performance data accurately and in a timely manner.
The BMET3 serves as a technical advisor to clinical personnel in the purchase of new instrumentation, designing of new systems, and modifying systems to meet special needs. Performs installation and deinstallations of equipment and other special projects. Demonstrates advanced knowledge of required safety precautions in the operation and maintenance of clinical equipment
Coordinates with WellStar IT in support of planning, installation and servicing networked medical devices and systems including interoperability into Epic and other repositories. Demonstrates an advanced knowledge of internet protocols and networked systems.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

Responds to service calls to evaluate, diagnose, and perform corrective and preventive maintenance on complex biomedical equipment in their field of discipline. Coordinates work performed by service contractors and vendors, including maintenance and inspection, repair, calibration, installation and performance verification and completion of documentation of service. Serves as a technical advisor to clinical personnel in the purchase of new instrumentation, designing of new systems, and modifying systems to meet special needs. Performs installation and deinstallations of equipment and other special projects. Demonstrates advanced knowledge of required safety precautions in the operation and maintenance of clinical equipment. Documents all repair, maintenance, installation, and other activity in a timely fashion using the departments equipment management software and other mechanisms as needed. Coordinates with WellStar IT in support of planning, installation and servicing networked medical devices and systems including interoperability into Epic and other repositories. Demonstrates an intermediate knowledge of internet protocols and networked systems. Works closely with all engineers across all teams including, Biomedical Engineering, Desktop Support, Systems and Network Engineering. Serves as a customer relations representative for the department, correcting service deficiencies within the positions scope of responsibility and relaying other issues to the Program Manager. Has working knowledge of and appropriate interaction with other support departments necessary for performing the BioMedical Department function. Maintains knowledge of current regulations and compliance standards for medical equipment and technology developments. Contributes to System/ Facility/ Department Quality Performance Improvement efforts. Performs delegated functions of the BioMedical Engineering Department as delineated in the Medical Equipment Management Program Policies and Procedures Manual. Present standard instructional material and conducts training in the techniques and methods of operation, problem diagnosis, and safe operation of medical systems for nurses and allied health personnel. Ensures proper care and accountability of Department, facility and peer tools and exercises judicious use of Department parts, supplies and other resources.

Required Minimum Education:

Associate's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Related Field or Equivalent Military Service Training
Preferred or
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Related Field or Equivalent Military Service Training Preferred

Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):
All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.

Required Minimum Experience:

Minimum 5 years experience in supporting medical devices and systems in a hospital environment. Required and

Required Minimum Skills:

Proficient in Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Capable of interpreting building architectural and systems drawings and information.
Able to compose and deliver presentations regarding medical devices and systems to clinical staff.
Proficient in Security Protocols and and Network Systems.
