About the Role

The Registrar will be expected to engage in clinical consultation in a private setting, including liaison with local maternal-child health services, St Vincent’s Private Hospital and other community-based service providers as necessary.  It is anticipated that there will be opportunities to develop prescribing and psychotherapeutic skills relevant to working with parents and their infants throughout the perinatal period and to assist with the development of teaching materials and a community network for cross-referral and collaboration between services.

 

The registrar is encouraged to attend to formal educational opportunities and courses related to the development of specialist skills in the area of Perinatal mental health.

Supervision will be available for both general perinatal and psychotherapeutic work in which the Registrar engages.

 

There is an expectation that the successful applicant contribute to the on-call roster at St Vincent’s Mental Health.

Applications are invited for an Advanced Psychiatry Registrar with a specific interest in Perinatal Psychiatry.

This is an accredited training position funded by the Commonwealth Department of Health under the Specialist Training Program and is based at the Gertrude Street Clinic.


Your Contribution

  • Bachelor Medicine, Bachelor Surgery or equivalent
  • Current unrestricted registration with AHPRA or eligibility for general registration
  • Registration as a medication prescriber
  • Current National criminal history check or willing to obtain one

About the Mental Health Department

St Vincent’s trainees have access to a wealth of specialist experiences including dual diagnosis, aboriginal mental health, psychiatry of trauma, psychotherapy, perinatal psychiatry, psycho-oncology, consultation liaison psychiatry, psychiatry of old age, and forensic psychiatry. Trainees are rotated to Austin and Eastern Health or to a new private rotation at Gertrude Street Clinic for their child and adolescent mental health experience.
