Job Description

About the role

The Analyst ~ Senior Associate, Investments will play a key role in the identification, evaluation, recommendation, and management of investment opportunities in the broader infrastructure private equity sector across data, renewables, energy, transport, utilities, and general core plus. The roles involves working across multiple global strategies to deploy capital into the Japanese market, spanning core-plus equity, core equity and private credit.

Working closely with the senior leadership, the successful candidate will be responsible for playing a leading role in the end-to-end execution of transactions, including conducting financial due diligence and analysis, formulating the business plan and preparing supporting bid documentation. In addition, this person will be heavily involved in origination of new investment targets and ideas.

The ideal candidate will be a seasoned mid-level investment professional, with experience in executing M&A transactions and a robust business sense and investment judgement. Sector experience across any of the following would be preferrable: Japanese private equity, infrastructure, renewables and/or data infrastructure/telecoms.

Responsible for:

Origination

  • Support the implementation of the business development and transaction strategy
  • Lead industry and market research to support the development of investment strategies or identify transaction opportunities. Conduct fundamental company and industry research.
  • Screen and evaluate new investment opportunities. Support the investment thesis and identification of value creation strategies and assist in developing ideas for a transaction / deal structure
  • Network and develop new investment ideas to grow the business

Due Diligence

  • Lead the financial due diligence process including overseeing income, balance sheet, and cash flow statements modelling and valuation and analysis prepared by junior colleagues
  • Working with operational teams, lead the execution of the due diligence process for a transaction that supports the validation of the business case supporting an acquisition and identify key transaction issues.
  • Prepare presentation materials and analysis to present deals to internal investment committees and third-party investor, clearly and succinctly communicating ideas
  • Prepare other documents such as bid letters

Execution

  • Working with legal, tax and other internal teams, lead the transaction execution process, including ensuring transaction documentation and structuring are consistent with the business case
  • Lead junior colleagues in all stages of a transaction’s life cycle, collaborating with internal functional partners and business group leads as well as interfacing with counterparties and external advisors

Asset Management

  • Work with portfolio company management teams on strategic business initiatives
  • Monitor ongoing financial and operational performance of investments, noting that Brookfield employs standalone finance, tax, treasury and asset management professionals to handle periodic reporting

Leadership

  • Manage, coach and develop talent by leading, overseeing and coaching junior investment professionals. Provide constructive and timely feedback to ensure quality team outcomes.
  • Represented Brookfield externally and be a strong ambassador for Brookfield in the Japanese market going forward.

About you

  • Bi-lingual Japanese and English
  • 2-5 years of total professional experience across buy-side investments, investment banking, in-house M&A/corporate development, management consulting, Japanese domestic trading house, Big4 corporate finance, corporate law;
  • At least 2+ years of buy-side investment experience would represent a significant advantage, however is not strictly required;
  • Exposure to the infrastructure industry (especially core plus, data or utilities) would represent a significant advantage however is not required;
  • A proven track record of leading of junior investment professionals throughout the end-to-end execution of a transaction;
  • Superior financial modelling and due diligence capabilities;
  • Strong negotiation and relationship management skills with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Organized and detail-oriented; ability to work in situations with changing priorities and multiple simultaneous assignments;
  • Ability to work with deal team members that are located across geographies.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication; experience presenting analyses to senior leaders and ability to lead and drive initiatives.
  • Superior financial modelling and due diligence capabilities;
  • Strong negotiation and relationship management skills with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Organized and detail-oriented; ability to work in situations with changing priorities and multiple simultaneous assignments;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication; experience presenting analyses to senior leaders and ability to lead and drive initiatives in a clear and concise manner
