About the Role

At eBay, we empower millions of buyers and sellers globally by building a safe, reliable, and compliant marketplace where ecommerce thrives. The Platform Governance, Compliance & Innovation team plays a strategic role in shaping how our business aligns with evolving regulatory and marketplace expectations.

We are seeking a highly strategic and execution-oriented Director of Business Operations to lead a newly formed horizontal Business Operations function supporting enterprise-wide initiatives across Payments Compliance, Platform Governance, and Regulatory Programs.

This leader will serve as the operational backbone of a global organization, ensuring that enterprise commitments are delivered on time, with rigor, and with measurable impact. The role combines portfolio governance, planning, data oversight, vendor management, and operational excellence.

This is a high-visibility leadership role requiring strong judgment, structured thinking, and the ability to drive clarity across ambiguity in a rapidly evolving regulatory environment.

What You Will Own

1. Portfolio Governance & Execution Readiness

  • Lead the operating cadence for a portfolio of compliance and regulatory initiatives, ensuring alignment with enterprise-wide milestones

  • Ensure executive-level visibility into progress, risks, and mitigation plans

  • Build and maintain a RASCI model that aligns stakeholders, clarifies roles, and enables decisive execution

  • Establish routines for issue escalation, and refinement of processes as demands evolve

  • Shape the internal narrative on organizational impact, risk mitigation, and performance outcomes and translate into high-quality executive and ELT-ready materials

  • Serve as the primary liaison on budget to ensure the organization stays within its allocated budget while maximizing output

2. Planning Leadership

  • Lead and coordinate the organization’s annual and half-yearly planning cycles

  • Help develop clear requirements, investment proposals, and resourcing plans

  • Partner with Product, Engineering, Legal, Analytics, Finance, and other cross-functional stakeholders to ensure plans are aligned, achievable, and appropriately sequenced

  • Drive prioritization and trade-off decisions across the portfolio

3. Data Oversight & Reporting Governance

  • Partner with Analytics to establish and maintain governance over core metrics, definitions, and reporting standards across the Organization

  • Ensure data integrity, consistency, and traceability across multiple functional inputs and internal and external reporting channels

4. Vendor Management

  • Drive cost-reduction strategies through meticulous vendor performance tracking and SLA enforcement

  • Coordinate contract strategy and renewals with business teams, legal operations & procurement

  • Develop vendor scorecards and cost optimization frameworks

5. Operational Excellence

  • Act as the lead "integrator" across Compliance, Regulatory, Product, Engineering, Analytics and Legal teams to reduce friction in the lifecycle and improve quality and velocity of progress

  • Drive post-mortems, and audit readiness processes as needed

  • Champion a Culture of AI Literacy and drive the adoption of an "AI-first" mindset across the team through continuous learning and experimentation.

Leadership Responsibilities

  • Lead a high-performing, multi-disciplinary BizOps team of 3

  • Simplifying workflows, eliminate duplicate reporting, and increase decision velocity

  • Establish clear accountability and operating rhythms

  • Act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership

  • Influence without authority across multiple global stakeholders

  • Foster a culture of rigor, transparency, and continuous improvement

What We’re Looking For

Experience

  • 10+ years of experience in business operations, strategy, program management, consulting, or enterprise governance roles

  • 5+ years of people leadership experience

  • Proven ability to manage complex, cross-functional programs at scale

  • Deep analytical experience building KPI frameworks

  • Experience operating in regulated environments preferred (fintech, compliance or risk)

Core Capabilities

  • Strategic operator with strong judgment who can shape leadership-level trade-offs

  • Strong executive presence and ability to communicate with senior leadership and VP-level audiences by elevating organizational narrative through data-driven storytelling

  • Demonstrate strong stakeholder engagement capabilities: drive accountability and process minimizing bureaucracy

  • Proven ability to lead teams through change and technological shifts; specifically, a passion for translating the "hype" of AI into practical, everyday cultural habits that improve team performance

  • Proven experience leading across multiple time zones and cultures; adept at managing the "asynchronous" nature of global operations without losing momentum or clarity

Mindset & Approach

  • Inclusive leader who values clarity, collaboration, and sustainable impact

  • Strategic problem solver who also excels at execution and operational rigor

  • Passion for creating frameworks that reduce friction and increase speed of execution

  • Ability to flex working hours and communication styles to engage effectively with teams globally
