As a key member within the Compliance and Risk organization at Aviva Canada, you will have a significant role protecting our dedication to regulatory compliance, customer outcomes, and positive relationships with regulators. Operating in a highly regulated financial services environment, you will lead the development and execution of Aviva Canada’s annual Independent Monitoring & Testing (IM&T) plan. You will ensure our operational, regulatory, conduct, and fraud-related risks are accurately identified, assessed, and monitored.
This role also serves as a central point for horizon scanning; keeping Aviva Canada informed of new and emerging regulatory developments across federal and provincial bodies and communicating impacts to stakeholders.
Own the planning, oversight, and delivery of the annual Independent Monitoring & Testing (IM&T) plan in alignment with Aviva Group methodology.
Develop and improve processes for 1st line regulatory self‑assessments in Ethidex and support 2nd line assurance testing.
Conduct risk assessments, identify trends, analyze testing results, and provide insights that support strong compliance and customer outcomes.
Review emerging regulatory guidance and new regulations, determine applicability, and issue timely communications to relevant stakeholders.
Coordinate assurance activities with Internal Audit and Risk teams.
Lead all aspects of testing activities, including scoping, execution, issue management, remediation tracking, and reviewing action closure evidence.
Prepare and deliver IM&T reporting to Senior Management, including key messages, trends, and issues requiring escalation.
Provide mentoring and guidance to both 1st and 2nd line teams on compliance expectations and testing quality.
Participate in Compliance & Risk team meetings, forums, and committees as required.
Support methodology improvements, colleague training, and ongoing horizon scanning processes.
Working understanding of the Canadian financial services insurance industry.
Awareness of relevant federal and provincial regulatory expectations.
Knowledge of regulatory compliance management frameworks and financial crime regulations.
Strong analytical thinking with the ability to independently form and express credible viewpoints.
Excellent relationship‑building, communication (written & verbal), and interpersonal skills.
Strong organizational and time‑management capabilities.
Ability to challenge constructively and influence key stakeholders.
A collaborative, team-oriented approach with high personal integrity.
Experience in compliance monitoring, assurance, internal audit, or risk management within financial services.
Demonstrated ability to plan and deliver sophisticated annual assurance programs.
Expertise in interpreting and operationalizing regulatory changes.
Familiarity with Ethidex or similar compliance self‑assessment systems.
Ability to mentor teams, drive methodology improvements, and support cross‑functional collaboration.
