JOB PURPOSE: 

The Software Engineer contributes to design, development, and deployment of Caterpillar’s state-of-the-art digital applications.

JOB DUTIES:

                Responsibilities Include:

  • Responsibilities across functional lines with individuals assigned in new program development and/or maintenance of existing mobile, WEB, Cloud, server, and/or distributed computing systems.
  • Competent to perform Spring Boot and development assignments without close supervision; normally assigned the more complex aspects of systems work.
  • Build new backend microservices using Sprint Boot framework leveraging out of the box components as well as extending/customizing where necessary to meet business needs.
  • Works directly on complex application/technical problem identification and resolution, including responding to off-shift and weekend support calls.
  • Works on complex systems or infrastructure components that may be used by one or more applications or systems under mentorship of Lead and Senior developer.
  • Drives application development focused around delivering business valuable features.
  • Maintains high standards of software quality within the team by establishing good practices and habits.
  • Communicate with others to help direct development, debugging, and testing of application software for accuracy, integrity, interoperability, and completeness.
  • Performs integrated testing and customer acceptance testing of components that requires careful planning and execution to ensure timely, quality results.
  • Employee is also responsible for performing other job duties as assigned by Caterpillar management from time to time.
  • Typical customers include Caterpillar customers, dealers, other external companies who purchase services offered by Caterpillar as well as internal business unit and/or service centre groups. 
  • Collaborate with project leads, senior developers and testers.
  • Good team player with sense of accountability, positivity and flexibility.

 Basic qualifications:

  • Position requires a four-year degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university.
  • 3+ years of software development experience.
  • 1+ years of experience in working with Java Sprint boot framework.

Top candidates will also have proven experience in many of the following:

  • Hands on Experience with Spring Boot framework and OSGi specification.
  • Strong knowledge of micro-service logging, monitoring, debugging, and testing.
  • Strong proficiency in Java programming language.
  • Knowledge of RESTful web services and API development.
  • Knowledge of markup languages such as JSON and YML.
  • Interconnecting microservices with databases.
  • Implementations experience in micro-service integration, packaging, build automation, and deployment.
  • Understanding of software development principles and methodologies.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and collaborate effectively with other developers and stakeholders.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Nice to have.

  • Familiarity with software development design patterns: GIT, Swagger, PCF, and Rabbit MQ
  • Expertise in API technologies such as Rest Webservices.
  • Previous experience writing unit tests with JUnit, Mockito, or PowerMock
  • Familiarity with database technologies such as MySQL, MongoDB, PostgreSQL or equivalent
  • Knowledge of how streaming systems such as Kafka operate.
  • Working knowledge of quality and security scan technologies such as Sonar, Fortify, and WebInspect or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of the Agile approach.
